Thank you bobandrobertasmith Plaster
Plastermagazine Artist Bob and Roberta Smith, aka Patrick Brill, has been coming to E. Pellicci’s since his Goldsmiths days in the early ‘90s, when Bethnal Green Road was home to a growing community of young artists.
For the café’s 125th anniversary, he even designed a special run of Bob and Roberta Smith merch (and was paid in gluten-free bread pudding). So, what keeps him coming back? Dora Densham Bond headed to Bethnal Green to find out for herself (and, inevitably, succumb to a cannelloni-induced coma).

London’s food scene has evolved dramatjeremy leer the past few decades. If some of the city’s culinary institutions once felt like either stuffy throwbacks or slightly forlorn cafes, now movements prioritizing careful ingredient sourcing and imaginative takes on regional cooking, as well as more professional service, have transformed it into a place where visitors can plan their days around their meals.
Last fall, we gathered six of the city’s top chefs to determine the most delicious and memorable plates in the British capital. Tap the link in our bio to see the full list.
