Get yourself down the Betsey this Saturday for a day of incredible music.

In the afternoon:
We are delighted to welcome back Joana Serrat and Elaine Palmer for an afternoon of cosmic Americana and delightful singer/songwriting.

JOANA SERRAT’s music is a perfect blend of Dream Pop, Folkgaze and Cosmic Country with echoes of Cocteau Twins, The Velvet Underground, Fleetwood Mac and Fairport Convention. She’ll be performing a full band set with her brand new backing band, The Sweet Nothings.

ELAINE PALMER Hailing from an isolated village up on the North Yorkshire Moors, Elaine has finely honed her distinctive voice and built a reputation as much for her emotive, mesmerizing stage presence as for her fusion of British folk and American country styles.

In the evening:

RACHEL LOVE is celebrating the reissues of “Picture In Mind” and “Lyra” with a special show at the Betsey. Rachel is a founding member of late ‘70s, early ‘80s group Dolly Mixture who were championed by John Peel and signed to Paul Weller’s Respond label. Born out of punk they also had a love of ‘60’s harmonies and created their own guitar pop sound. Support comes from Telecom and Keiron Phelan and Peace Signs.

We’re having a little bit of work done and have discovered the (possibly) original Victorian Betsey flooring. Charles Dickens himself might have stood on these very boards. Exciting!

Tomorrow night at the Betsey:
Nashville Babylon presents Ben De La Cour

Raised in Brooklyn, Ben de la Cour lived in London, Cuba and across the United States before making his home in the American south over a decade and a half ago. Becoming well known for his inimitable “Americanoir” sound, his latest release ‘New Roses’, has received fantastic praise including Album of the Month and “★★★★” from MOJO magazine. This show comes fresh off the back of a tour supporting Lucinda Williams who personally invited Ben to join her and we are so excited to be welcoming him to the Betsey as part of his headline UK and Ireland tour.

Support comes from Tenderness - the solo project of indie-folk musician Katy Beth Young (Peggy Sue, Deep Throat Choir).

A Loose-tastic week here at the Betsey Trotwood!

London’s premier alt-country and Americana label Loose Music are taking over our upstairs function room tomorrow night for their monthly Nashville Babylon gig series. This month’s headliners are Sutton supergroup The Ladles with support from south east England-based singer songwriter Sam Senior.

In other Loose news:

Our dear friend and collaborator Danny George Wilson just released his third solo album (and 21st album in total) called “Arcade”. A beautiful record with nods to Scott Walker and Frank Sinatra’s Watertown. Make sure to grab a copy.

Betsey alumni The Hanging Stars (featuring our very own Patrick on guitar) just announced a new album and released a brand new track called ‘The Glasshouse’. Produced by none other than Teenage Fanclub’s Gerard Love - and Dexys’ Sean Read, of course. A beautiful jangle rocker. Check it out. It’s good!

Not one, but two amazing gigs got announced today:

Gigs klaxon! After a gap of almost a year, Clerkenville East-West at The Betsey Trotwood is back with three cracking matinees in May & June. We are huge fans of US jangle/ power pop legends The dB’s and are delighted the chief songwriters of the band, Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple, can join us for two very special shows. Chris sold out two nights at the Betsey when he last played London in 2023. Incredibly, this will be Peter’s first headline appearance in the capital. Ticket here:

Trotwood Events present Joana Serrat + Elaine Palmer

We are delighted to welcome back Joana Serrat and Elaine Palmer to the Betsey for an afternoon of cosmic Americana and delightful singer/songwriting on Saturday 16th May 2026. Tickets on sale now. Link in bio.

JOANA SERRAT Hailing from Vic, but recently relocated to London, the Catalan singer/songwriter has released six critically acclaimed albums (“…like Mazzy Star guesting on an early Neil Young demo,” Mojo), performed on the biggest festival stages across Europe and the USA and supported artists including The Jayhawks, Neko Case, Courtney Marie Andrews, The Handsome Family, and Israel Nash, while performing headline shows across the globe, including the UK.

Her music is a perfect blend of Lynchian Americana, shoegaze and cosmic country with echoes of the War On Drugs, Slowdive and Sharon Van Etten.

She’ll be performing a full band set with her brand new band of London music scene veterans (including members of The Hanging Stars, Lightshines and The See See).

ELAINE PALMER Hailing from an isolated village up on the North Yorkshire Moors, Elaine has spent much of her life travelling back and forth to family in Phoenix, Arizona. Growing up in an old Watermill, she immersed herself in music, writing songs influenced by her surroundings both in the UK and USA. Elaine finely honed her distinctive voice and built a reputation as much for her emotive, mesmerizing stage presence as for her fusion of British folk and American country styles.

Touring extensively, sharing stages with the likes of Patty Griffin, Lilly Hiatt and Seasick Steve, her two most recent releases Half Moon Rising and Some Seek Silver, Some Seek Gold have seen her working with musician and producer Mike Butler (Phoebe Bridgers, Norah Jones, The White Buffalo) at his Half Moon Lodge studio high in the San Diego hills.

Though singer and songwriter Peter Morén is no stranger to the UK, having played here many times with Peter Bjorn & John (he’s the Peter in Peter Bjorn and John, you know) and more recently joined Go-Betweens legend Robert Forster on guitar on his most recent tour (as well as producing the latter’s excellent “Strawberries” album). Expect wistful folk, Beatles-esque harmonies, psychedelic guitar jangle and catchy tunes.

Stoked to host the return of alt country/indie legends Thrum. Thrum rose to fame in the mid-90s as part of the burgeoning alt-country scene that spawned bands like Uncle Tupelo and The Rockingbirds. This will be their first London show in 32 years. Monica and Johnny are no strangers to the Betsey, having performed here with their project Tenement and Temple and they’ve also participated in our We Love The Betsey fundraiser during lockdown. Join us this Sunday for an afternoon of left-field singer-songwriting with

JACK HAYTER - Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, poet and polymath. Jack has played with a bunch of great bands (Hefner, Dollboy, Papernut Cambridge) and also has his own distinctive voice as a solo artist

SHARRON KRAUS - Sharron’s music weaves folk with the old lore, where the preternatural is real and the songs are spellbinding.

JASON STEEL - Fingerpicking on guitar, banjo and lap slide. Singer of songs – think lycanthropy, Paul Klee and Leadbelly.

Not many tickets left, link in bio.

Here’s your weekly reminder of the Glaswegian double-header happening on Valentines weekend:

On Saturday 14th February we’ve got Finlay Macdonald’s (Teenage Fanclub/BMX Bandits/Lenzie Moss) latest project wor_kspace playing in our main bar. Expect experimental electro pop influenced by Stereolab and Yo La Tengo. Support comes from no other than the amazing Gerard Love (Teenage Fanclub/Lightships) and up-and-coming artist Radhika, who’s been on heavy rotation on BBC Radio 6. (This show is now s0ld 0ut)

Cure your hangover (that we probably caused in the first place) on Sunday 15th February with the jangly pop sounds of indie legend James Kirk (Orange Juice), who’s recently joined his old bandmate Edwyn on stage at the Royal Festival Hall (alongside our very own Patrick Ralla) and singer/songwriter Warren McIntyre. They’ve just released a single and there’s talk of a new album. Exciting! Support comes from Brighton indie popsters Lovejoy. (Limited availability via wegottickets.com)
