Falafel has always been something we’ve loved cooking in our Kingly Court restaurant. It’s a simple recipe that takes inspiration from our home in Damascus.
Ours are freshly fried to order, carefully dimpled to make sure they’re extra crispy, and topped with sumac, pickled onions and tahini.

What is Imad’s favourite thing about Imad’s Syrian Kitchen?
For , it’s an impossible question to answer.
It’s the people who fill the restaurant each day, the team, the atmosphere. And of course, the food and drink that carry the flavours and memories of Damascus.

On Wednesday, we were honoured to host a charity breakfast in collaboration with , the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, bringing together friends of Imad and members of our community to shine a light on their vital work supporting young people across the country.
During the morning, Centrepoint team spoke about the realities of youth homelessness and the importance of safe spaces, dignity and long-term support for those rebuilding their lives.
Imad also shared his own experience of being homeless for over 60 days after fleeing Syria, a reminder of how fragile stability can be, and why no young person should ever have to face that uncertainty alone. Centrepoint supports over 15,000 young people every year, providing safe housing and the expert guidance needed to help them reclaim their futures.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning so meaningful. If you’re able to, please consider supporting and the incredible work they do.

Chilly days call for warming dishes like our smoky, comforting Sarnoa. We slow roast then grill halved aubergines, before topping with lentils, broad beans, silky tahini sauce, a handful of pomegranate seeds and a sprinkle of fresh dill.

Everything we did with friends in Syria centred around food. It is a form of communication, something that becomes part of you before you even arrive. Sitting together, sharing stories and time, food opens conversations and brings people closer in a way that words sometimes cannot.
A special dinner hosted by Nader Sabbagh, one of my best friends, and his family, where we were treated to the smell of Shish Tawook, Shaqaf, Kabab and Mashawi cooking on the grillas we enjoyed each other’s company. In Syria, Shish Tawook is a familiar and homemade dish, marinated gently and grilled over open flames until full of flavour. There meals are are often shared slowly, with warmth and laughter. Always with generosity, and often follwed by charred corn to end the meal.
A very special thank you to everyone who welcomed us, cooked for us and made this trip so memorable. Your kindness, care and hospitality will stay with us. We will be back very soon for more, with full hearts and gratitude.

One of the highlights of the whole trip was visiting one of the Molham Team orphanages. Back in London, we have been fundraising for this charity for many years and to see this orphanage filled with young girls, not dissimilar in age to my own daughters, it was incredibly beautiful and moving. From the rooms, to the people working there, to the orphans, we were filled with so much emotion knowing that this is where our efforts have been channeled. It felt like a home, with every bedroom set up to sleep 6-8 girls, and every two rooms have a 'mother' or 'mama' to look after them.
It put everything into perspective and reignited my passion to do my best for the people of Damascus. It’s never been about the fame, but seeing it in person I felt recognised and valued about never forgetting my heritage and roots. Thank you so much for showing me around and for the brilliant work bringing the smiles of young children back despite the devastation they've experienced.

One of my first priorities when I arrived in Syria was to take my family to visit my mother’s grave. She passed away only 50 days after I fled, and I was the only one of my siblings who could not be there to say goodbye before she died. We were not expecting Mama to pass away - it happened very quickly, and the shock of receiving the news from so far away is something I will never forget. Returning to her with my wife and daughters, after the life we have lived since leaving Syria, was emotional and a moment of honest reflection.
It was also important for me to visit my father’s textile shop in the Souq Al-Hamidiyah. It is now abandoned, with the same 'closed' sign still hanging on the door. One day, this was meant to become my shop when I continued our family’s work in the Damascene textile trade. Seeing it shut down was difficult, and a reminder of how much was left behind when we fled. Still, I felt close to that part of my story simply by standing there.
And of course, I could not leave without trying on a few traditional Damascene outfits and head dresses from the neighbouring shops. These garments are made with vibrant fabrics and careful craftsmanship, and they carry a long history of Syrian textile making. It was a small but joyful moment in a day full of emotion, memory and gratitude.
