A mum has thanked Asda colleague Federica for the kindness she showed her when her autistic son was getting overwhelmed while shopping in our Ellesmere Port store.

The customer said her son, who is also non verbal, was struggling a bit and, without his wheelchair for support, she found herself sitting on the floor with him, trying to comfort him while feeling overwhelmed herself. Federica heard the little boy crying and went over to check that he was okay. She then noticed his mum was sitting on the floor too and immediately wanted to make sure she was okay as well. When she got closer, Federica said: "It's ok, I have an autistic child too."

The lady posted on Pride in the Port Facebook group to thank Federica, saying: "I just sat on the floor with my son because in that moment all I can do is offer comfort and you went out your way to check he was okay and reassure me I'm doing a brilliant job! The world needs more people like you. Your kindness didn’t go unnoticed!"

Federica, whose nine-year-old son Gabriele is autistic, said: "I told the lady that I had an autistic boy myself and I know how she felt. I feel so much empathy for mums in general, especially those with children with special needs. The lady's comments on Facebook were lovely, I did not expect them. When I read them I was crying like a baby. It made my day."

Our colleague Charles has been going out of his way to put smiles on the faces of customers at our Shirley store in the West Midlands since the day it opened 12 years ago – with customers telling us that his willingness to help and big beaming smile make him a joy to be around.

Charles was recently presented with an Asda award for his excellent customer service. He said: "I'm a people person and love interacting with customers. I'm usually on kiosk so I'm one of the first people customers see when they come into the store. I like to be happy and friendly, it's just the way I am. I like to make our customers happy If I can. There are a lot of regular customers who come in and always have a good natter with me. It's a very friendly store and what I really like about the job is the diversity – no two days are the same. It's really nice getting an award, but really I'm just doing my job."

Customers have been telling us what a star he is. Shearine said: “I’m a local resident, my terrace house backs onto Asda. I have been frequently shopping at Asda Parkgate coming up to 12 years now and in that time I have had the pleasure to get to know Charles, he is such a lovely person. He is also very helpful and always has a joke or two to brighten up your day. He always has a kind world to say about others." Mark said: “Charles is always a friendly and welcoming face, and makes an effort to say hello to me and my disabled daughter … even when he is clearly busy. His warm approach and high level of customer service goes a long way, helping make shopping a calmer experience. A true standout example of how a small act of kindness goes a long way." Phillip called him "A true master of customer services" and another customer, also called Philip, said: "Charles makes shopping at Asda a happy experience.”

The store's community champion Sally said: "Charles is often on the kiosk and he's generally the first person customers see when they come in see. He's always cheery. Everyone knows him for his kindness, patience, and genuine care – and cheeriness. What makes this even more special is that Charles doesn’t do it for recognition – it’s simply who he is. We are so proud and lucky to have him as part of our Asda Shirley family."

Steph and Lorraine from our Cardiff Bay store did all they could to made sure two Take That fans had the greatest day ahead of the group's Circus concert at the Principality Stadium.

The fans, who are from Bristol, had pre-booked parking slots in the store's car park online and had gone into the store to ask what the best way was to travel to the concert, as well as to see what Welsh products the store had so they could take them home later. Steph said: "We're not too far from the stadium – about a 25-minute walk – and people do park here for concerts and sports events as it's so handy. There's quite a few takeaways and shops on the way to the stadium from here and we are open 24 hours.

"The ladies were big Take That fans and had seen them every time they'd been on tour. They were in a bit of a rush to get to the stadium and but really wanted to take some local produce home with them so Lorraine and I sorted that out for them ready for them to pick up after the concert." The thrilled fans rang the store the next day to praise the pair for their excellent customer service.

When a customer's mobility scooter broke down on a shopping trip to our Lancing supermarket during the recent hot weather 20-year-old Asda colleague Harry stepped in to help – pushing the 70-year-old gentleman home himself.

Harry said: "His scooter just stopped working while he was shopping, so we got him the store scooter while we charged his up. But after about 15 to 20 minutes of charge it still didn't work. I offered to get the gentleman a taxi home, but I don't think he wanted to leave his scooter so I said I'd push him. He didn't live too far away, about a ten-minute walk.

"I pushed and he steered! It wasn't too heavy as luckily he didn't have too many shopping bags with him. It was a hot day though and I was sweating by the time we'd got to his house! He shook my hand when we got there; he was very grateful. With all the doom and gloom in the world it's nice to do something positive for someone."

Store manager Sally has nominated Harry for an Asda service superstar award for his kindness. She said: "Harry is a really great member of the team and always goes above and beyond for customers and colleagues. Nothing is ever too much for him."

28/08/2026

When a customer in her 80s really wanted a stone-coloured raincoat from George at Asda that she'd seen online Emma from our Asda Living store in Stafford went out of her way to get it for her.

The lady doesn't shop online, so Emma did it on her own personal account for her. She paid for the coat and had it delivered to the store. When it arrived, Emma phoned the lady so she she could come in and collect it, and Emma was reimbursed for her purchase.

Emma said: "I showed the lady some of the coats we had, but she was adamant that she wanted the one she'd seen online. She said she didn't order online so I ordered it for her myself to get the coat into the store. When it arrived we kept it in the back for her and I gave her a call. I don't like to see anyone struggle, especially the older generation who sometimes don't trust using their bank card online. She was over the moon when she picked up the coat."

Store manager Sue, who nominated Emma for an Asda service superstar award, said: "It was absolutely lovely thing to do, outstanding, but that's our Emma! She will do anything to help the customer. She'a little star."

Over the past 30 years, Tickled Pink has made an indelible impact, raising over 100 million to fuel groundbreaking research, awareness initiatives, campaigns, and vital support services.

At the Terrace Pavilion in Westminster, we celebrated the transformative power of collective action, hearing firsthand from individuals and organisations driving change for those affected by breast cancer.

Special thanks to Sharon Hodgson, Department of Health & Social Care, Patricia Ferguson MP, our event sponsor, and our partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!

In partnership with Springhallow Special School, Business Education Events (BEE) CIC has initiated a program aimed at introducing autistic students to the world of work, with a focus on health, safety, and first aid.

A group of students, comprising Loqone, Varsh*th, Oliwia, Konrad, Jora, Jack, and Thilosh, took part in a store tour that offered a comprehensive experience.

The tour covered various areas, including front and back of house, the Bakery, Sushi Counter, and Halal Counter, and included a pizza-making activity that the students particularly enjoyed.

This activity enabled the students to develop new skills while showcasing their confidence and involvement.

The visit concluded with a discussion on health and safety, led by our store manager Sev Or, counters colleague Sharon, and security guard David.

The students were treated with badges and treats, promoting kindness to oneself and others. This experience has undoubtedly contributed to the students' enhanced confidence, understanding of the workplace, and sense of belonging. Future collaborations would be beneficial in providing more such valuable experiences.

Thank you Angela!

When a partially-sighted customer needed a little help getting round our Park Royal store, checkouts colleague Angela was happy to help him get his groceries.

Angela offered to take the customer round the store, picking out items he asked for, before packing the shopping for him and making sure he got on the right bus home. She said: "I love my job and everyone knows that I will help anyone. I put customers first all the time."

Store manager Sevgi said: "Angela showed patience, care, and respect, ensuring the customer felt comfortable and supported. Her actions went above and beyond demonstrating empathy, initiative, and a true commitment to helping others."

25/03/2026

I had the honour of addressing Members of Parliament to introduce myself, tell them a bit about our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign and to remind them all about the importance of regularly checking their chest.

Here's my speech:

Good evening My name is Donna Turner, and I am the Community & Customer Champion at Asda Park Royal. I have worked for Asda for over 23 years. I am truly passionate about creating a stronger community for our customers and colleagues.

I help raise vital funds, raise awareness of our own National Charity, Asda Tickled Pink, and partner with Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!Throughout my time at Asda, I have received various awards, and after 23 years of service I was the proud winner of the "Retail Colleague of the Year".In my role as Community & Customer Champion, I have supported numerous local and national charities.

My work with Tickled Pink involves fundraising activities, bucket collections, raffles, tombola in-store events, bag packing, and more recently, promoting the sale of Tickled Pink products and working alongside breast cancer specialists to provide vital information to both men and women. This information includes encouraging people to check their chests and highlighting the importance of attending breast screening appointments. The funds raised are used by Asda's charity partners, Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!, to raise awareness and support initiatives such as funding research into early detection of breast cancer.Research is crucial in improving outcomes for those affected by the disease.Working with Tickled Pink has shown me that breast cancer can affect anyone, that early detection saves lives, and that regular self-checks are essential, along with encouraging others to do the same. Therefore, I kindly ask all of you here to pledge to check yourselves regularly, starting from today.Thank you.

Fresh Horizons CNB Provides fresh and non-perishable food through their Foodbank every Friday for those in need within our local community.

We presented a cheque for £600 from the Asda Foundation to Debbie and her team at the Foodbank located at the Methodist Church High Street Harlesden, where food packages are distributed to recipients of all family sizes. Tickets are handed out to individuals recipient from 8:30 am, and food is packed and distributed by volunteers. At 12:30 pm the chain of service is created for a smooth and orderly transfer of packages to the recipient, over 100 were handed out on Friday 6th. The line seemed endless as the needs of individuals varied. I observed and participated in the full operation behind the scenes, and credit is due to the management team. Ms Taylor, who manages the centre, leads with thorough knowledge of each individual and treats them with respect. Each recipient's needs are met with great compassion.

Fresh Horizons CNB not only supports the Foodbank but also assists the homeless by offering a safe and stable living environment for those on the journey back to independent living. They provide supported accommodation, which includes life skills training, basic care, and counselling services. This encourages individuals to achieve their goals by restoring their self-confidence and independence. Their services are offered to individuals referred by Night Shelters and other homeless shelter organisations across Greater London.

We had a lot of fun in our store ahead of Valentine's Day – transforming it into a setting for a fun dating initiative!

We introduced special red shopping baskets on February 14 for singles to choose instead of the classic green ones to signal to others they're "open to talk".

If the basket is green, don't be too keen, if their basket is Red, love may spread! I had the pleasure of serving the first individuals to meet this Valentine's at our store.
