The picture isn’t too clear but here’s a little experiment. Last year I interviewed Mashudu Takalani from a wonderful project called Earth Lore as part of an article for . EarthLore work with farmers in Zimbabwe to encourage seed diversity and traditional farming and ceremony with seed. Mashudu pointed out to me was that farmers had a different kind of relationship with seed, one particular thing that many farmers did was hold seed in their mouths, mixing it with their saliva before they planted it. I was having a chat to one of our volunteers and we fancied giving it a go...
Here’s the result with our radish seed, one side planted as usual, one were held in the mouth before sowing, no other different treatment was given. Can you guess what side were mixed with spit?! ☺️...the right side!...they’ve grown much bigger and stronger. We will repeat this next spring with some other varieties 🌱
