The Woodman N13 is a charming pub located near Grovelands Park in London. The pub offers a beautiful country atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The history of The Woodman dates back to 1727 when it was built as two cottages on top of a hill. It still retains its original charm and feels like a home even today.
One interesting fact about The Woodman is that it was once the front sitting room of a retired policeman, Henry Wale, who asked for permission to sell ale from his home. He became the first-ever licensee of The Woodman, which has remained a public house ever since.
The interior of the pub is cozy and inviting with low-beamed rooms that retain some of their original features. There are also photographs displayed inside the bar area showcasing The Woodman covered in ivy during its early years.
The pub was refurbished in March 1996 by Discovery Inns after Whitbread brewery sold the freehold. They added a rear bar, conservatory, restaurant, new kitchen, and ground floor cellar. New toilets were also built inside the pub for the first time.
At the rear of The Woodman is Grovelands Park, which adds to its serene ambiance. It's a remnant of the ancient Forest of Middlesex and survived as part of a large estate belonging to Mr Walker Gray, a brandy merchant whose relative John later inherited it.
Overall, The Woodman N13 is an excellent choice for anyone looking for an authentic English pub experience with great beer and food options. Its rich history and beautiful surroundings make it an ideal spot for locals and tourists alike.
