A few days left to enjoy October’s Early Evening Menu which sees the return of our annual tradition - the autumnal pithivier. A game bird pithivier has been part of our repertoire since day one here in 2015 and returns to the menu on an irregular basis when the chefs have discovered a new and interesting way of presenting this classic of French patisserie.
This year’s version is lighter than some, reflecting our pleasantly gentle decline out of Summer temperatures and the general tone of cuisine leger throughout the menu. Breast of goose, served pink within layers of sage and apricot and encased in pastry. To the side a rich piece of roasted Jerusalem artichoke, a puree of the very same and pickled cubes of artichoke too.
The £55 menu begins with two new snacks - devilled egg yolk with Cantabrian anchovy and a truffled chicken croquette before a first course of shellfish bouillabaisse. Plenty of light touch cooking but something unquestionably substantial to finish; a warm and giving pudding of steamed quince and honey with a smoked custard.
£55 every early evening until Saturday 31st October.

Strawberry and elderflower trifle from our new dessert menu - all the things a great dessert should be; playful, light, decadent and a nod to a childhood classic. The layers are formed of joconde sponge made with almond flour, a vanilla creme mousseline and a elderflower and strawberry jelly. To the side, elderflower custard with a scoop of strawberry sorbet on top.

A Summer main course from our new a la carte menu. Crisp guinea fowl breast, white onion puree and roasted summer squash served alongside a sausage of chicken mousse and sage, juniper and black pepper.

Our petits fours are often the most commented-upon part of the experience here at Portland. Like our pastry offering more broadly they aim to be delicious, technically complex but redolent of some simple sweet memory from childhood.
We usually have a chocolate and our current one is perhaps the best yet. 75% Piura Porcelana from is tempered into moulds and filled with a milk chocolate and Grand Marnier creme patissier. Served with orange peel and white chocolate ganache on top.
A sable breton biscuit offers a pleasant, salt-y contrast and is topped with vanilla and lemon zest mascarpone and a piece of completely-perfect Tulameen raspberry.

Located on Great Portland Street in London, the European restaurant and Modern European restaurant can be easily reached by public transport or by driving. If you plan to take public transportation, the nearest Tube station is Great Portland Street Station, which is served by the Hammersmith & City line, Metropolitan line, and Circle line. Alternatively, you can also take a bus to the nearby Oxford Circus Bus Station.
If you're driving, there are several paid parking lots nearby, including Regent's Park Car Park and NCP Car Park London Brewer Street. Keep in mind that parking in central London can be quite expensive.
