Boatneck
Michael Reed digs through records that build the kinds of spaces that pulled him in from the start. The goal: to trace a path through sound that feels both personal and heavily communal. Guided by a deep love of radio and long-form listening, his sets unfold slowly - less about arrival, more about staying present - allowing textures and rhythms to breathe over time. As East Village Radio’s youngest resident, he brings a fresh but considered perspective to the airwaves. Grounded in and forever grateful to New York’s independent music community, his approach is rooted in care: for the room, the listener, and for all pockets of space in between.

Dearly beloved… it was ten years ago, a month after Prince had left the earthly realm, in the pre-King’s Cross, post Merchants Tavern era, we threw a party in the basement of the Ace Hotel.
We gathered all our major Prince heads to come and pay tribute to His Royal Badness. And what a night it was! The recording is still up on our Mixcloud.
Thanks to and for digging deep and to the great for the artwork 💜💜💜

On Wednesday 10th June we host a very special night of talking, listening and drinking with special musical guest Toshio Matsuura from United Future Organisation (U.F.O.)
Spiritland founder Paul Noble hosts two fascinating discussions with representatives from two iconic Japanese companies - Kevin Walker from Technics & Raffaele De Monaco from The House of Suntory.
Kevin Walker previously worked at Panasonic when they announced the return of the iconic Technics brand. More than a piece of audio equipment, the Technics turntable has been at the heart of several dance music genres, and entirely responsible for at least one. Treading a line between passion and geekery, we dig into the history and innovative journey of this unique Japanese audio brand.
After his years of experience in the bar industry, and a passion for Japanese culture, Raffaele De Monaco proudly represents the venerable House of Suntory by creating memorable experiences that embody the true spirit of Suntory Time — one Toki Japanese Highball at a time. What makes a Highball? You’ll find out on the night.
Music on the evening comes from Toshio Matsuura (U.F.O.)
After forming United Future Organization (U.F.O.) in 1990, the group released five full albums in 32 countries worldwide, receiving high acclaim from all quarters. Since going solo in 2002, he continues to be active as a DJ in clubs and festivals both in Japan and globally.
In 2013, he launched HEX, a project showcasing contemporary jazz, and released the album “HEX” worldwide through Blue Note Records.
In 2018, he released an album worldwide under the new project TOSHIO MATSUURA GROUP, featuring young British musicians, now re-released on vinyl by Brownswood Recordings. We’re honoured to have him play a rare UK set at Spiritland this June.
Enjoy a welcome cocktail as well as a classic Toki highball whilst listening to these two experts talk about their craft and music from the peerless Toshio Matsuura.

Private Agenda
Private Agenda is the enduringly eclectic alt-pop project of Sean Phillips and Martin Aggrowe. Based between London and Amsterdam, the pair have crafted an alluring and versatile sound from a musical palette which touches upon dream pop, disco, ambient and adult contemporary.
Their expansive approach to music-making owes inspiration, in part, to a love of the Balearic Beat where leftfield 12’’ new wave and pop records found a home in DJ sets to soundtrack long, hazy nights alongside early house and slo-mo disco.
Private Agenda have released two full-length studio albums on Lo Recordings, a hotbed for experimental electronica and have collaborated on releases for a number of iconic indie labels including Mute, City Slang and Wall of Sound as well releasing on leading imprints in the electronic music underground, including International Feel, Permanent Vacation and Live at Robert Johnson.

We’re delighted to host the opening party for the month-long collaboration with Toki at Spiritland, with a very special DJ set from Nina Yamada (Jazzy Sport London)
Born and raised in Kamakura, Japan and currently based in London, Nina Yamada is a DJ and the founder of Jazzy Sport London, the first international branch of the independent record label and record store Jazzy Sport, which has been expanding across Japan since its establishment in 2002.
Deeply influenced by her father’s extensive vinyl collection, Nina began DJing at a young age, developing a distinctive sound shaped by years of digging and listening. While her foundation lies in deep house, her sets fluidly move across Afrobeat, jazz, Latin, reggae, and other groove-driven genres, creating an organic and soulful dancefloor experience.
Nina has performed extensively across Europe and Asia, with appearances at renowned venues and festivals such as Berghain Panorama Bar in Germany and Wonderfruit in Thailand. In the UK, she opened for Detroit legend Theo Parrish at We Out Here, further solidifying her presence on the international circuit.
We’re thrilled to have her make her first appearance at Spiritland this June. Booking is advised.
