This award-winning restaurant has been serving authentic British fish and chips since 1945, and it's easy to see why they were named the UK's Best Independent Restaurant of the Year in 2014.
What sets Poppies apart from other seafood restaurants is its friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia curated by the owner himself. The menu includes sustainably-caught fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas prepared on the premises by their onsite fishmonger. In addition to fish and chips, you can also try their seafood platter, pies, chicken, or traditional east end classics like jellied eels.
To top off your meal, indulge in one of their traditional English desserts such as sticky toffee pudding or apple pie. And don't forget about the drinks - they offer everything from fruit juices and ginger ale to carefully-picked wines and locally-sourced beers.
