Big players, big games and big checkouts in last night’s Premier League matches. And judging by the photo, possibly the start of a new pop ‘Super Group’. But that’s another story.
There was some movement up and down the leaderboard, and the race for a top four spot is still very much alive and kicking for most of our players. More from the oche next Monday.
Also, for those interested in being a part of out official Alex Beckett Darts League starting in October, two spots have become available. You can have up to six in a team, and three players play any given match. Your group matches are spread out between October and April, and you’re given plenty of warning of your dates.

Two corkers in last night matches from The Alex Beckett Darts League!

Match 1:

Darty Martini, one of the best team names of the season, were back on the oche after their riotous victory last time around.

Against them, ‘Darts Without Borders’, who so far this season had won one, lost one.

The first leg saw ‘The Angry Thrower’ take on ‘The Punisher’

The latter got his score down quicker than an estate agent asking for an expense receipt, but the doubles evaded him, allowing Adam back into it. In the end it went closest to the bull, with Will saving a bit of face by sinking two in the green, and one firmly in the red. 1 - 0

Next up was another tight affair which saw Sophie from Darty Martini take on Gary Shelford, playing his first match of the season. It was a quick leg, both players knocking out high scores, but in the end Shelford just edged it. 2 - 0.

Dougie ‘Mad Man’ Draper went next against Jamie, and it looked like it was going only one way, until Jamie sunk a beautiful double out of nowhere. 2 - 1.

‘Darts Without Borders’ took the next three on the bounce, but it was far from easy, and as is so often the case in this league the score line belies how close the match actually was. 5 - 1 in the end, and 3 points to the victors.

The Round the World Challenge was yet again another nail biter. Rob Cheetham stepped up for the champions of player immigration and timed a very impressive 1min 40seconds.

Darty Martini sent up Sophie, who timed out at 2mins 32seconds, which last year would have probably won you the bonus point no problem. But alas, this is not last season. 4 points to ‘Darts Without Borders’, but playing like this, ‘Darty Martini’ are still very much on for progression to the knockout rounds. It’s heating up in Group A!

Match 2:

Al’s former team and 2018 runners-up ‘Bulls^*t!!!’, took on ‘The Blind Bats’ in our second match of the evening.

got the girls off to a flyer with a perfectly thrown double12 against .

Live from a cold garage in Wales, Al’s bro had the perfect riposte against .

The next leg saw The Barley Mow’s very own take on . It was close, so close it went closest to the bull. Twice. Having both got the outer bull the first time round, it had to be retaken and Gav just edged it.

Two back-to-back wins for the boys saw them on the edge of victory, but Agi wasn’t going to make it all plain sailing with another closest-to-the-bull nail biter against Dan. This time it went her way.

Gav had the final word with a clean bill of health from the double1, giving the boys a final 5-2 victory and all three points plus a bonus point for besting The Round the World Challenge, leaving them top of Group B, which gets tighter with every game!

Until next week. . .

Last night the world sat glued to the telly, watching the last ever episode of Game of Thrones. They shouldn’t have wasted their time, because the real drama was taking place in The Alex Beckett Darts League!
Reigning champs ‘The Flights Are On, But Nobody’s Home’ were up against Al’s former team and 2018 runner-up ‘Bulls^*t!’, in a repeat of lasts year’s final. That match finished 10-1, would this one be so one sided?
Disaster almost struck before a single dart was thrown, with having to withdraw yesterday morning, and star player also being unavailable due to threading the boards. Their 6th substitute, Gav Mk2 stepped in to save the day, but didn’t instill huge confidence when he asked if a dart board had a number 3!
‘The Flights...’ took first blood, with the big, bad, boss man Stephen felling . 1 - 0
Then up-stepped Gav Mk2 against ‘Two Darts ’, and whilst he might not know where any of the numbers actually are, it turns out he can definitely hit them. 1 - 1
Next up, live from a garage in Wales, Al’s big bro played the 180-hitting . 2 - 1.
Stephen vs Gav Mk2. Close, but no cigar, 3 - 1 to ‘The Flights...’
‘Two Darts Dan’ vs James, we could hear the cheers all the way from Wales. 3 - 2
Darren vs Dan took it to 4 - 2, which meant ‘Bulls^*t!’ Would have to win all the games to win the match...
Stephen vs James? 4 - 3
The Battle of the Dans? 4 - 4.
And so, it would go down to the final game, where a player capable of a 180 would take on one who wasn’t sure a dart board had a number 3!🤔
At one point was over 250 better off, but this league does funny things to people, and somehow Gav Mk2 chipped away at the score until both players were in the Mad House.
In the end, Darren got the cleanest bill of health, and as such ‘The Flights...’ are still in the mix to defend their crown. But what a match!
Commiserations to ‘Bulls^*t!’, you did Al proud regardless of the result, and we’ll see you again next season.
As for ‘The Flights...’, we’ll see you back on the oche in a fortnight, for the first of our semi finals against ‘Bmorians’.

Last night saw our 3rd Quarter Final in the Alex Beckett Darts League, and this one was personal!
Back in October, last year’s semi-finalists, Flight Risk, were a quintet about to play their first match. But just as the transfer window was about to close, Rob Cheetham jumped ship from The Empire and joined a plucky band of resistance fighters called ‘Clare’s Swear Bears’.
The Empire does not treat deserters kindly...
Effigies of Rob were used as target practice. He was forced to eat his lunch alone. He was called ‘traitor’, ‘scab’, even ‘Lando Calrissian’!
But wait on, wasn’t Lando a good guy?
So it was of course inevitable these two teams would meet at some point, the questions was, who would win?
‘Clare’s Swear Bears’ fought bravely, but the might of the Empire was just too powerful, winning 5 - 2.
As such, congratulations to ‘Flight Risk’ who will face The Barley Mow’s last hope, ‘The Performing Darts’ in their semi final on June 3rd. Commiserations to the Swear Bears, we’ll see you next season. And we’ll see the rest of you next week when Al’s former team ‘Bulls^*t!’ take on reigning champions, ‘The Flights Are On, But Nobody’s Home’ in a repeat of last year’s final.

Some times a player wins. Some times statistics win. Tonight, darts won.
Quarter Final No2 saw Group B winners ‘Bmorians’ take on Group C runner-ups ‘The Chairmen of the Board’. Even the keenest Barley Mow bookie couldn’t predict this one...
It went back and forth, back and forth like Manchester Utd and Arsenal in the early noughties. Before they were both crap! There were even three ‘clean bills of health’ thrown in for good measure! But in the end it went down to the final game...
The two monikers, ‘Sticky Paw’ and ‘Joblet of Fire’ would go head-to-head to decide the winners and who would progress to the semis.
Well, he might have just returned from his stag do, and looked worse than any customer I’ve seen in 20 years in this game, but with a beautifully thrown double 5, Jobber took the match, and as such are our second team of this season to reach the semis!
We’re closed for the bank holiday next week, but we’re back on the 13th when ‘Flight Risk’ take on ‘Clare’s Swear Bears’.

And so the knockout rounds begin with the first Quarter Final of the season. Although it almost didn’t happen...
As the pictures can attest, at 3pm this afternoon renovation on the back room was not quite going to plan!
But nothing rallies the troops here at The Mow then when a match in The Alex Beckett Darts League is at stake!
Group D winners ‘The Tungsten Tossers’ were drawn against Group A runner-ups ‘The Performing Darts’...
The first three matches went the way of the PDs, but in two of those three, ‘The Tungsten Tossers’ were well ahead before each was decided by who would escape the Mad House first!
The Tungsten Tossers came back after the first break with two straight wins, although again, one of them meant getting a clean bill of health!
The Performing Darts then turned the screw with two back-to-back wins, with the Barley Mow’s own throwing the match winning dart.
Commiserations to The TTs, we’ll see you again next season, and most Friday afternoons(!) but it’s into the semis for The Performing Darts!
Next week it’s the annually interchangeable resurrection day, but we’ll be back on the 29th when ‘The Bmorians’ take on ‘The Chairmen of the Board’. To the OCHE!
