It’s been 2 months today since we handed the keys over to . In those two months, they’ve done a marvellous job of renovating the space and opening with a new and ever-growing menu.
Meanwhile, we’re still reminiscing on all of the love and support we had in Communitea’s final weeks, including this beautiful and thoughtful ditty written by in dedication to the cafe (and her favourite dish! 🌯). 🥹❤️ The coolest adaptation of a classic by George Formby from the late 30s. Rositta surprised us with this rendition during our final Open Mic Night in November, and it left us in tears (good ones) 🥹
We miss you all. Hope to still bump into some familiar faces at the new Chicory ☕️

Dear friends,
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the closure of our beloved café as we transition to new ownership. We have made the difficult decision to step away and prioritise other aspects of our lives, but we will forever carry the warmth and memories of this special place in our hearts.
We want to express how grateful we are for your support over the past 6 and a half years. We have been through so much together, and the energy of the space wouldn’t be what it is without you all. Getting to know you all on this journey has been one of the greatest experiences of our lives and we hope we have played even a small role in yours too. Thank you for being a part of our story.
When we first opened our doors in 2018, our goal was simple: to create a place where food and drink could bring us all together and be the soul of our collective experiences. We hope we succeeded in making this space feel like home for you, just as it has been for us. We hope the community spirit we have built together, will continue to live on. 💛
We hope we can share one last coffee with you before we go. Our last day of trading will be the 26th of January, after which we will be handing over to the new business - and we can’t wait for you to meet them. More on that soon.

We are so excited to announce our most recent collaboration! Introducing our vibrant new pop-up menu crafted in collaboration with Chef Jahan who is bringing Sri Lankan food to our tables. Introduced to us by the incredible this new collaboration is more than just curating a wholesome new menu; it’s a true celebration of community, of history, and honouring our chef’s lifelong culinary journey.
“My dad owned a restaurant in Sri Lanka in a city of different ethnic communities with diverse food histories. I've loved cooking Sri Lankan food for as long as I can remember. From the age of 10, watching my father cook gave me the food knowledge I now hold. I cooked together with my family for the restaurant guests. My father was a very good cook and everything was homemade; we never bought curry powder from the shop. We always made it from scratch.”
Jahan's pop up will be at till October. We can't wait for you to try it 💕

In March we took the plunge and had our first food pop-up collaboration with Amelia from who brought her incredible plant-based Caribbean and African fusion food to the cafe menu.
The direction of the cafe is shifting and we are now actively working towards being a cafe that invites new people to take over the space so that our menu always stays fresh, exciting and so that we can give budding chefs a chance to test drive their foodie ideas in a supportive environment.
Amelia is here this May with a menu that is as bold and delicious as she had in March. She makes all her food with imagination and love; from her sweet chilli vegan smoked 'salmon' bagels, to her vegan berry pancakes served with homemade coconut cashew cream!
Her food is infused with all of her passion for cooking and the joy that comes with sharing that with the community, and we're delighted she's back. She'll be at the cafe from Thursdays to Mondays: 10-5:30pm (excluding the bank holidays).
