Japanese restaurants are known for their simplicity, honesty, and quality. TANAKATSU, located on Wakley Street in London, is a perfect example of this. This contemporary Japanese diner is based on Katsu houses throughout Japan and specializes in Katsu, Teriyaki, and Sushi.
TANAKATSU is run by a husband and wife team, Joe and Koko. Koko is an experienced restaurant manager who has worked at prestigious Japanese and European restaurants both in London and overseas. She also designed the restaurant interior with her own vision according to a Japanese aesthetic emphasizing subtlety, modernity, and understated elegance.
Joe is the executive chef at TANAKATSU. He is a classically trained chef who has worked in some of London's finest kitchens alongside some of the UK's most celebrated chefs. Joe developed a fascination with Japanese cuisine and has mastered certain dishes and techniques under the tutelage of native chefs.
Before opening TANAKATSU, Joe and Koko spent months living and traveling in Japan sampling dishes in restaurants and people's homes. They discovered family recipes and formulated ideas for the menu at TANAKATSU. They fine-tuned these dishes in their pop-ups before bringing them to a wider audience at their permanent location.
At TANAKATSU, you can expect high-quality ingredients prepared with care to create delicious dishes that will leave you wanting more. The Katsu dishes are particularly noteworthy - crispy on the outside yet tender on the inside with just the right amount of sauce to complement the flavor.
Overall, TANAKATSU is an excellent choice for anyone looking for authentic Japanese cuisine served with simplicity, honesty, and quality.
