Our new face 😊👍

The wheels are in motion with something that has been brewing for some time, and its closer to breaking out of its box. New logo, new bags, new merch a new Press but the same great coffee and vibes, just a fresh outfit to hit the town with.

What happens when you sabotage your V60 recipe with on of our coffees? 🔪

Using the Muki from Uganda 🇺🇬 (an anaerobic natural with tasting notes of keylime pie & pineapple rum) we wanted to see if we could still make a disastrous brew taste good… with Rodrigo as our test subject.

The essential steps we omitted? Well:
-Scales
-Eye dosing
-coarser grind settings
-No pre wet (dry filter paper 🥲)
-Eye water pouring
Basically a recipe for a pretty average brew, so, do you really need all the bells and whistles to make a good brew with a Press coffee? The result isn’t what you would expect 👀👀

Not just coffee ☕️

Swipe to see which is ‘your’ coffee, which do you relate to?

Just like people, our coffee’s have their own unique quirks, each bringing their own notes and flavours that establish their characters.

☕️ What’s a Quaker Brew like? 👀

First, what’s a quaker? Or a defect coffee bean? In every coffee sack before its roasted, will inevitably have a few defected or damaged coffee beans, those individual beans during the growing process never quite grow and capture all the nutrients & sugars we like & look for within the coffee bean itself, essentially? An unripped coffee bean that will never grow further, resulting in a coffee that doesnt roast like its brothers and sisters, coming out as a light brown bean.

🔍 As part of our quality check, just after a batch has been roasted, the teams will sift through the batch and pick out any identifiable defects and dispose of them… but in this case, we kept them, and made a little ‘Defect Brew for the team to try at a cupping 🙃

The result? : ‘Ew’ 😵‍💫

Defective brew tasting note: Hay🐴, Burnt Popcorn 🍿, To***co 🚬

This lil Mahlkonig needed some TLC 🧹

If you didnt know already, your grinders at home need a clean out every so often, from as you can see, coffee fines build up and get left behind. Just as if you dont brush your teeth, the ‘food’ gets stuck up in the grinders teeth (Burrs), which eventually affect your coffee quality.

Learn how to ❤️ your latte art

As Valentine’s is around the corner, lets brush up on those Heart latte arts for that special someone, David our Wholesale account manager runs a crash course here on how to texturise (aerate) your milk, pour and form the heart shape of your latte art.

❤️ STEPS:
- Aeration, place your steam wand at 3o’clock on the surface of the milk, using the rim of the jug as your clock face.
- once the steamer is on, you want to ‘hiss’ add air into the milk for around 2 seconds also spinning the milk, then move the wand to the centre, with the tip of the steam wand under the milk’s surface, allowing the milk to spin and break the bubbles into micro foam.
- keep your fingers / hands on the jug, when you can no longer hold the jug, thats around the right temp to stop steaming (65c)

- hold your cup & espresso at an angle, pour the milk keeping the spout away higher from the espresso surface, when you reach 3/4 full, its time to create that heart, simply bring the spout to the liquid surface, and let the micro foam/ density transfer over to the cup, your ‘apple’ will appear, when the cup becomes full, you cut / drive through the apple, creating a heart.

Happy Valentines! 💘
