We would like to sincerely thank every single person who has supported us and reached out to check on us during this difficult and unpleasant time.

Following the initial police decision on the case, we received overwhelming support from the community, as well as from , . Their involvement helped lead to the case being reopened and further investigations being carried out.

After carefully consideration, a decision was made to take the attacker to court. Our aim is to help prevent incidents like this from happening again.

Together, we stand for better safety in our communities. Surbiton—and everywhere else—should be a place free from violence, where everyone feels safe, happy, and accepted. Everyone deserves the freedom to walk the streets with peace of mind and to express themselves without fear.

Where is the justice?

This is the email we have just received following the incident.

The CCTV footage wasn’t enough. The attack itself wasn’t enough. The racism wasn’t enough. Even the witnesses’ statements weren’t enough.

All of that was set aside — and yet the attackers’ words were enough.

Where do I even begin…

Eid Celebration turned to fear…

We have been proudly open in Surbiton for 11 years, and for the first time, we decided to celebrate Eid openly with our community. After so much thought, effort, and love, we wanted to make it something special bringing people together and giving the kids a day of joy and fun.

But what should have been a beautiful celebration turned into something deeply upsetting.

While my sister was at our food stall, simply feeding her 6 month old baby, she was approached by a man shouting racial abuse at her before violently punching her in the face, in front of everyone.

The things he said were beyond hurtful. He told us to leave “his” country, said people like us make him sick, and called us scum. No one should ever have to experience something like that especially not in a moment that was meant to bring happiness and unity.

But in the midst of this, something powerful happened.

So many people stepped forward. Strangers stood firmly by our side, refused to let the man walk away, and stayed with us until the police arrived. Your support, your courage, and your kindness meant more than we can ever express. We will never forget it.

The man has now been arrested, and we hope justice is served.

This experience has shaken us. It frightened the children, and it turned smiles into fear. It will take time to heal but we believe we will come back stronger.

Clock Tower Cafe will keep going. Through every hardship, there is ease.

Thank you again to every single person who stood by us 🤍

I honestly can’t understand what kind of joy people get from damaging someone else’s property. I wonder what was so funny about it to these two guys? I hesitate to even call them men — their actions were childish at best, though that might be unfair to children, who often show far more decency and respect than what I witnessed from them.

Surbiton has always been such a wonderful and peaceful place, which makes this behaviour even more disappointing to see.

I would like to take a moment and thank everyone for their kind words and beautiful support, we are very lucky to be surrounded by a beautiful community.

I have recently set up a GoFundMe to support the Clock Tower Cafe after the break in. This isn’t an easy thing to ask, but any support—whether it’s a donation, a share, or kind words—means the world to us.

Your generosity, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference and help us keep going. Please take a moment to check out my page here:
