With a heavy heart, we are sad to announce that Laksamania will not be reopening. We tried hard, but in the end, recent events have made reopening too cost-prohibitive and risky.
As it always is in the restaurant business, there have been countless ups and downs over the last 8 years. Along the way, we have made many friends and met so many wonderful and interesting people. There have been times when we were euphoric at being able to do what we love, but also very difficult moments when we needed to overcome challenges brought about by Covid. Against all odds, we have managed to keep our doors open for 8 years! That is no small feat for an independent, family-run business in London these days.
Despite finding ways to adapt time and again, nothing has prepared us for the tsunami of challenges in 2025. Many people have been feeling the pinch financially over the past few years, and of course our customers have been no exception. Less disposable income naturally means that fewer people are spending money on ‘luxury activities’ such as enjoying meals out. Alongside this already difficult climate, increasing overheads plus the reduced assistance towards business rates have placed an additional financial burden on us, one that we simply can’t sustain.
We’re proud to have achieved what we set out to do - to bring you a taste of authentic Malaysian cooking. While there’s so much more we wish we could have shared, we’re truly grateful to have introduced you to Chef Danny’s takes on some of our most beloved dishes, from the many types of laksa, to char kway teow, his legendary satay chicken, Hainanese chicken rice, and wat tan hor, to name but a few!
We owe it to all our amazing customers, the passionate foodies who helped to spread the word from the very beginning, and not least our dedicated and hardworking staff who have made it possible to bring our vision to life.
Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye. You have given us so many wonderful memories. We are ever so grateful for your support over the years, and we THANK YOU with a grateful heart. 💛🍜🇲🇾
