One of Notting Hill’s most historic pubs has had a bit of a glow-up.✨
Re-introducing The Champion.
From a boxing ring once sitting in the garden to reportedly being a watering hole for the legendary Freddie Mercury (we have the proof now📸), this is a pub with some proper stories in its walls.
The refurb hasn’t messed with any of that. We’ve simply given the old place a well deserved polish, bringing it up to scratch while keeping all the character that makes The Champion, The Champion.🏆
Our downstairs space, the Mercury room, has been converted to be functional for both normal pub use and be flexible for private hire.
With screens, movable furniture and its own private bar for use. Work do, birthday, big get-together 🎉…you know the drill.
And don’t worry, it’s still very much your local. Come in for fish & chips, pull up a chair for a few pints, round up the mates or finally get date night in the diary. Same Champion spirit. Fresh new look.
Head to our website to book a table and come have a nose around for yourself.📘

Almost 190 years of stories. ❤️🍻
While The Champion is taking a little break, we thought we'd take a look back at some of the history behind one of London's much-loved pubs.
Dating back to 1838, The Champion has been part of the Wellington Terrace neighbourhood for generations — right beside Kensington Gardens.
And it hasn't always been just about food and drinks… 🥊
The pub once had an open-air boxing ring, bringing a very different kind of entertainment to Wellington Terrace!
Over the years, The Champion has also been part of London's LGBTQ+ history and has had strong connections to the city's music scene, including its long-standing association with Freddie Mercury. 🎸
Through all those different chapters, one thing has remained the same: The Champion has always been a place for people to come together.
Pints poured.
Stories shared.
Friendships made.
Memories created. ❤️
And now, after nearly 190 years, we're getting ready to start a new chapter.
We're not erasing the history.
We're adding to it.✨
We can't wait to welcome you back on 27th August and show you what's next.
Here's to the past, the present and everything still to come. 🥂🍻
