Anchor Bankside is a must-visit pub and restaurant in London. Located in the historic Southwark area, this charming establishment has a rich history dating back to the 1600s. The pub was once frequented by literary greats such as Shakespeare, Dr Samuel Johnson, and diarist Samuel Pepys. Anchor Bankside offers classic pub food and a pint of cask ale that will leave you wanting more. The fantastic beer garden is perfect for enjoying free WiFi while sipping on your favorite drink. Dogs are also welcome at this pet-friendly establishment.
Anchor Bankside offers internationally inspired cuisine with vegan, veggie, and gluten-free options available. The menu is diverse and caters to all tastes. The pub's name owes its origin to an early owner of the brewery, Josiah Childs, who gave it its current name in 1665. Childs was closely involved with the navy, supplying them with masts, spars, bowsprits as well as stores and small beer.
The Anchor - Bankside is situated on one of the most historical reaches of the Thames and has fascinating historical associations. It was allegedly used for plague pits during 1603 and was also the site of bear and bull baiting pits in the past.
