When an elderly customer who lives on the top floor of a 10-storey block of flats couldn't get to the shops because the lift wasn't working Robyn and James from our Tamworth store came to the rescue.
The lady phoned the store asking for help placing an online order for the first time. Online team leader Robyn said: "She was getting quite distressed and upset, as there was no way she could get to the shops as she couldn't walk down the stairs. I felt terrible for her and told her not to worry. She gave me a list of the things she wanted – mainly big bottles of water and long-life milk – and I got a trolley and bought them for her. I just thought it was a nice thing to do."
Robyn asked her colleague James to deliver them to her – and he battled up the stairs to get to the customer's flat. He said: "It was a good workout! The lady was lovely and very appreciative. I stayed and had a chat with her and I think she appreciated a bit of social interaction. It was nice to think I made her day."
When the lift was back working the lady called into the store with a thank you card for the colleagues. Online manager Nicki said: "Until the lady came in I didn't know the full extent of what Robyn and James did, as they played it down as if it was just part of their job to help someone. I’m so proud of them both." Robyn was reimbursed by the store for her kindness.

Here's the moment checkouts colleague Sonia from our Handsworth store in Sheffield met up again with one-year baby Makiah whose life she saved when he choked on some food by one of the tills.
His mum, Ashleigh, and six-year-old sister Malicah called in at the store to say thank you again to Sonia, who's been named regional winner in the Asda service superstar wards for her heroics. Sonia was on self checkouts when she spotted Makiah choking and coughing in a trolley basket seat. Ashleigh passed him to Sonia, who, with the help of a customer, managed to clear his airway after turning him onto his belly and patting his back hard.
She said: "My heart was going ten to the dozen. It was such a relief. It brought a bit of a tear to my eye when Makiah started to cry and just wanted his mum. Anybody else would have done the same. I saw Makiah choking and instinct took over. His mum was very grateful but I was just doing my job. I was just relieved that he was fine afterwards."
Ashleigh said: "When I got home afterwards I couldn't stop thinking of how Sonia and the other lady both potentially saved his life. My family and I are very grateful, and I'm so glad Sonia got an award for what she did. She was so kind to us afterwards too."

When a partially-sighted customer needed a little help getting round our Park Royal store, checkouts colleague Angela was happy to help him get his groceries.
Angela offered to take the customer round the store, picking out items he asked for, before packing the shopping for him and making sure he got on the right bus home. She said: "I love my job and everyone knows that I will help anyone. I put customers first all the time."
Store manager Sevgi said: "Angela showed patience, care, and respect, ensuring the customer felt comfortable and supported. Her actions went above and beyond demonstrating empathy, initiative, and a true commitment to helping others."

When an elderly housebound customer was struggling to replace an old DVD player so he could re-watch a Chelsea match from 1965 that he was in the crowd for in stepped Belvedere store manager Sandy who not only gifted one to him but delivered it to his home with the help of her colleague Malik.
The gentleman, who is in his late 70s, couldn't get his machine working and phoned a number of other retailers without getting any help before Sandy and Malik stepped in to make his day. Malik said: "I set the new one all up for him and he was delighted. We had a good chat and he even gave me a hug. He lived alone and had lots of DVDs of old Chelsea games. He had Chelsea memorabilia on his walls and even had a photo of himself with Muhammed Ali. We just wanted to do something kind for him."
The store's community champion Kuia said: "The customer was overwhelmed and moved to tears with the gesture and said that he genuinely appreciated the support he had received."

When Lou from our Hereford store spotted one of her regular elderly customers was a bit off colour she stepped in to help him finish his shopping and then walked him safely home.
The gentleman, who's in his 80s, was shopping on his own when he started to feel a little bit unwell and needed a sit down. Lou asked him if he was okay and then helped him get his remaining groceries, took him to a till and bagged up all his items. Then, after getting the okay from her team leader, she accompanied him home, which is about ten minutes away.
She said: "We always have a nice little chat when he comes in, he's a lovely gentleman. He just wasn't feeling too clever and I didn't want him to walk home on his own. We had a lovely chat on the way about his life; it was lovely. We took a little trolley with us and when we got to his house I took his shopping inside for him. I just wanted to help him, bless him, and he was very grateful. I love my job as I meet lots of lovely people, and it's nice to be nice and help people."

The last few weeks I have been fundraising for our breast cancer charity campaign tTickled Pink.
I started with my first ever hamper raffle. I made up three Mother’s Day hampers full of items any mum would love. Well done to Michelle from home shopping and Barb from front end for winning two of the hampers, I’m still waiting for the winner of the third one to collect theirs. The second week I had my table set up with all the new items sent in for Tickled Pink and must say the bag charms seem to be everyone’s favourite. I also made some flowers up for the table to help raise money. Thank you to everyone who supported me.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Barking and Dagenham SFA girls U11’s team.
Even though it was a cold and wet day they played their hearts out. They were all extremely grateful for the donation of hydration drinks and healthy snacks after their game. It was a pleasure to see happy faces even though they were all cold. Good luck girls for your next match.

The lovely Claire from Mayespark Primary School's PTA collected a donation to help the school support vulnerable families in the community. They also support families with food so children can have a hearty full dinner, and weather appropriate clothes amongst much more.
I was able to reach out to the school to help with an Asda Foundation Young Futures grant, so fingers crossed they're successful.

Carl from The Boathouse popped by to collection a donation I got together for their “honesty library” that is open to all the local people with a lovely section just for the little ones.
Everyone can come use the warm space to read books there or take them home, but they also get to meet new people, have a chat or get some advice whilst having a lovely cup of tea.

Congratulations to The Drop-in Bereavement Centre who have been awarded a £1,000 Better Together grant from the Asda Foundation.
They used the grant to hold a Christmas party for people suffering in grief alone and isolated. The centre reminds them that they are never alone and always have support all year round. I am extremely proud they were awarded the grant.
