THE ARTWORK DISAPPEARED IN LESS THAN 20 HOURS. THE CABINETS REMAIN.

The artwork that recently attracted so much attention to Umana Yana was removed in less than 20 hours.

Now, more posters have appeared on the telecommunications cabinets outside our restaurant.

For 14 years, we have been fighting to be seen.

We are not involved in the artwork or the posters. Our concern remains the same: the future of our small Guyanese restaurant and the impact these cabinets have had on our business.

Despite the challenges, we are still here, still cooking and still fighting for survival.

❤️ SOMETIMES WISHES DO COME TRUE! 🎨

For years, the telecommunications cabinets outside our beloved Umana Yana restaurant have been a source of frustration, blocking our frontage and affecting our little business.

Over the years, many people have offered to paint them, but my answer was always the same:

“The only artwork I would love to see on those boxes is a Banksy!” 😂

I have said it so many times, even just a few weeks ago. I even prayed that one day my wish might come true!

Well, imagine my surprise when I arrived this morning and saw THIS! 😍

Now, I want to make one thing absolutely clear. I am not involved in politics, nor am I endorsing any political message. My wish has always been to see these unattractive cabinets transformed into something that would attract attention, spark curiosity and perhaps bring more people to our little Guyanese restaurant.

I don’t know who created this artwork or whether it is genuinely by Banksy, but I certainly wasn’t expecting this when I arrived today!

After all these years, the boxes have finally become a talking point for a very different reason.

Whoever the artist is, you certainly got my attention! ❤️

❤️🎨 SOMETIMES WISHES REALLY DO COME TRUE! 🙏🏽✨

I can hardly believe what I walked into this morning, Friday 16th October 2026!

For approximately 14 years, the telecommunications cabinets outside our beloved Umana Yana restaurant in Herne Hill have been a source of frustration, obstructing our frontage and affecting our little family business.

Over the years, many people have kindly offered to paint or decorate these boxes to make them more attractive and perhaps draw customers to our restaurant.

But my answer was always the same:

“The only artwork I would love to see on those boxes is a BANKSY!” 😂🎨

I have said it so many times, even just a few weeks ago. I even prayed that one day Banksy might come and transform these unattractive cabinets into something extraordinary.

Well, imagine my absolute shock and excitement when I arrived at Umana Yana this morning to discover that ALL THREE CABINETS HAD BEEN TRANSFORMED OVERNIGHT! 😍❤️

For a moment, I could hardly believe my eyes!

Now, I would like to make something very clear. I am not involved in politics, and my excitement about this artwork should not be mistaken for an endorsement of its political message.

In fact, I didn’t initially understand the meaning of the word “fascism” and had to ask my husband, Junior, to explain it to me.

My wish was never about politics. It was simply about turning something that has caused our little business so much frustration into something creative, interesting and eye-catching.

I have always admired how street art can attract attention, bring people together and make an ordinary place extraordinary.

I genuinely do not know who created these pieces or whether they are authentic Banksy works, but whoever the artist may be, you have certainly surprised me!

After all these years of campaigning to have these cabinets removed, I never imagined that one morning they would become the centre of attention for an entirely different reason.

Sometimes life has a funny way of surprising us! ❤️

And if the artist happens to read this, I would love you to know that my wish was for beautiful artwork that would bring smiles, curiosity and perhaps a few more visitors to our little Guyanese restaurant.

❤️🎨 DREAMS DO COME TRUE! 🙏🏽

For 14 years, these telecom cabinets have obstructed Umana Yana. Many offered to paint them, but I always said, “Only Banksy!” 😂

I even prayed for it!

Imagine my shock this morning when ALL THREE had been transformed overnight! 😍

I’m not political and do not endorse the message. My wish was simply for artwork to attract attention to our little Guyanese restaurant.

Are they genuine Banksy works? I don’t know, but what a surprise! ❤️

THE PETITION MAY HAVE CLOSED — BUT OUR FIGHT IS NOT OVER. ✊🏽

For years, Umana Yana has had to operate with large telecommunications cabinets directly outside our restaurant, obstructing our frontage and affecting the visibility of a small independent family business.

We launched our petition because we believed something had to change.

That petition has now closed, and although we did not achieve the number of signatures needed, something very important DID happen:

People listened. People shared. People signed. People stood beside us. ❤️

Our campaign reached far beyond the doors of Umana Yana, and we are incredibly grateful to every single person who supported us.

But the cabinets are still there.

So the situation remains the same — and therefore the fight continues.

We are now preparing our next community campaign event at Umana Yana, bringing together food, music and the wonderful people who have continued to stand behind us.

We are currently finalising the arrangements, so please keep watching our page for the announcement.

When that date comes, we would love to see our community come together once again — not simply for Umana Yana, but to show what can happen when ordinary people stand together for their local businesses, their community and their neighbourhood.

Please note that Umana Yana will NOT be open during our usual lunchtime hours of 12:00–2:00 PM this Thursday due to a hospital appointment.

We expect to REOPEN AT APPROXIMATELY 6:00 PM for our evening service. 🍛❤️

As many of our lovely customers travel some distance to visit us, we wanted to give you advance notice so that no one makes an unnecessary journey during the day.
