Fresh on the pumps at Eight Bells 🍺

We’ve just welcomed two cracking beers from Long Man Brewery to the bar:

🍺 Long Blonde-light, golden & hoppy (3.8%)
🍺 Old Man-a smooth, classic golden ale with plenty of character (4.3%)

Two very different pours, both well worth trying — but be quick, the good ones never hang around for long 👀🍻

In 1886, the new stone Putney Bridge opened-and with it came a dramatic shift.

The road layout changed, Fulham High Street became a cul-de-sac, and trade at The Eight Bells dropped almost overnight. The impact was so severe that the pub received £1,000 in compensation in the late 1800s.

Many pubs wouldn’t survive this.

But this one did.

Against the odds, The Eight Bells stayed open-and its story was far from over.

In 1729, the original wooden Putney Bridge opened-and suddenly, The Eight Bells became a key stopping point.

Travellers crossing the bridge would pass directly along Fulham High Street, making the pub a busy and popular meeting place for centuries. These were the pub’s golden years, with steady trade and constant footfall.

For over 150 years, the bridge and the pub went hand in hand-until one major change altered everything…
