Ahead of our special event celebrating the wines of Alain Castex this weekend we did a little q+a with our Group Wine Buyer, Emily Estlin. Swipe for her take on what makes them so special and why is now the time to drink them…
Sunday 24th and Monday 25th May
At Elliot’s Hackney
With special guest Frédéric Grappe from Dynamic Vines joining us on Sunday 24th
15/05/2026
For the Bank Holiday next weekend we’re throwing open the cellar doors at Hackney to celebrate the extraordinary wines of Alain Castex. One of the pioneers of natural wine, his belief that honest farming and minimal intervention were the only way to truly express terroir has led to wines of legendary status. Sadly Alain is no longer with us, which makes these wines even more special and it’s even more important to take a moment and enjoy them when the time is right.
And that time is now! On Sunday 24th May Frédéric Grappe from Dynamic Vines, our importer and longtime champion of Alain’s work, will be joining us to pour and talk through the wines. Some bottles will be available by the glass, alongside a selection of bottles and magnums for larger groups and longer lunches. From the iconic Canta Mañana rosé to beautifully mature reds, this will be a rare opportunity to explore the evolution of one of France’s most singular winemakers.
We will also continue the celebrations on Monday 25th with by the glass options available.
So join us at Hackney to raise a toast next weekend.

All these gems are listed at lower than usual margin prices, giving you more bang for your buckeroos.

Here’s a lil edible slice of Elliot’s history for you!
Our cheesecake has been a staple on the menu since at least 2016, according to the earliest recorded evidence we could uncover.
Our head chef at the time Matt Goddard () experienced the Basque cheesecake on holiday in San Sebastián and attempted to recreate it in the Borough Market kitchen. It was a months long exercise exhausting a lot of cheese, but the result was comparable to the creamy dreamy original.
Over the years it has evolved like all good things and we’re really proud of what it is today, having levelled it up with the addition of our wood fired oven and the ongoing dedication to the cheesecake cause of Exec Chef Matt Tarantini ().
So a decade on we are bringing IT this weekend to ’s Cheesecake-off. There are still a few tickets available so see ya there friends!

Hello superstars! We’re looking for a full-time Assistant General Manager to join our stunning team in Borough Market.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced restaurant leader. It’s a floor-led role for someone who thrives on the energy of service, leading from the front, bossing the room and creating memorable experiences for our guests.
As we celebrate our 15th year, you’ll play a key role in shaping our next phase.
We’re looking for someone enthusiastic, sharp and business-minded who genuinely loves the buzz of restaurants, is familiar with seasonal produce & low intervention wines, all while keeping operations running smoothly behind the scenes.

As fans and supporters of the East and South East Asian Community Centre (ESEACC) and their Luncheon Club, we were super saddened to hear they lost key funding at the end of the last year. Based in our neighbourhood of Hackney, it’s an incredibly important and vital community space for people from the diaspora and beyond to come together, receive support services and keep their stories alive.
To raise awareness and funding for the ESEACC we will be adding an optional £1 donation to bills from now through to the end of May. These donations will go towards supporting the small team of staff and volunteers to keep the centre running for future generations and to maintain services for the community’s elderly and vulnerable.
We are very proud to be launching this initiative and if you are interested in getting involved or supporting in other ways we highly reccomend direct donations, purchasing the almost sold out Luncheon Club t-shirt or attending upcoming fundraising events.

Low key decided to launch a whole new menu yesterday and tested it with the team. New dishes, some re-worked favourites and of course the cheese puffs (we could never). More to come, but it’s live now at Hackney in time for all the lovers this weekend and will be making its way to Borough soon. We’re super pumped for this next evolution of Elliot’s just in time for the real new year, that of the fire horse (cameo on last slide c/o ). Lessss goooooo 🔥

Rally the gang, a most welcome antidote to this weather situation is a comforting Sunday Roast. We do ours cooked over wood and charcoal to absorb that fiery grill energy. Every Sunday at Borough and Hackney.

Happy new year friends! We wanted to start 2026 off strong and thought there is no better way than sharing our love for really really stellar wines! So we’re giving you some of that new year energy by offering bottle shop prices on our Cellar List every Monday.
We haven’t been able to nail a sassy name for it (suggestions welcome), but know it’s a mix of exclusive, rare and allocation wines that we’ve been collecting over the years, available on Mondays at bottle shops prices.
And if we may, it could be quite a good idea to get some pals together, pair this with our £45 feasting menu and really get stuck into some of our large format options as well… tbh we can’t think of a better way to kick off the new year!
Our Cellar Lists are available at both Borough and Hackney for dine in guests only.

What people say
Elliot's is a modern European restaurant located on Stoney Street that offers an exceptional dining experience. The restaurant has a British touch to its menu, which is evident in the dishes they serve. Elliot's is known for its seasonal and locally sourced ingredients that are used to create mouth-watering dishes.
One of the things that make Modern European restaurants stand out is their ability to combine different culinary traditions and techniques to create unique and delicious dishes. Elliot's does this perfectly with their wood-roasted chicken fricassee, which was served during a special lunch with winemakers Julie & Toby Bainbridge. The dish was inspired by Anjou cuisine and paired perfectly with the new season wines poured by Toby.
Elliot's also prides itself on using fresh ingredients in their dishes, as seen in their mackerel crudo with verjus, fennel pollen & biber chilli. The dish was first introduced at some recent events before making it onto the menu at Hackney.
Another standout dish at Elliot's is the asparagus, marsala and wild garlic zabaglione with Mangalitza lardo. This dish showcases the chef's creativity and skill in combining different flavors to create a unique taste.
Overall, Elliot's is a must-visit for anyone looking for a modern European restaurant that offers exceptional food made from locally sourced ingredients. With its cozy ambiance and friendly staff, it provides an unforgettable dining experience that will leave you wanting more.
