One thing I’ve learnt since opening Golden Union back in 2008 is that you can never take your customers for granted.
Whether someone visits us every week or has travelled thousands of miles to try British fish and chips for the first time, I want them to feel welcome when they walk through our door.
We’re an independent restaurant in the heart of Soho, and we put a lot of hard work into serving food we’re proud of.
So if you’re shopping in the West End, visiting London or looking for somewhere for lunch, do pop in and see us.

I’m delighted to share that Golden Union has been shortlisted in the Top 10 Fish and Chip Restaurants of the Year 2027 at the National Fish & Chip Awards.
When we opened Golden Union on Poland Street in 2008, we never imagined how far this little business would come. It’s taken a lot of hard work, plenty of learning along the way and a team who care about serving good food every day.
Being recognised among the top ten is something we’re genuinely proud of. Thank you to our team, our regular customers and everyone who has supported us over the years.

A little bit of fish & chip shop tradition today.
Pickled onions, pickled eggs and gherkins.
I’ve been around pubs and restaurants since 1993, and these have always been familiar sights in British pubs and fish & chip shops.
There’s no great secret to why they work so well with fish & chips. That sharp, vinegary taste cuts through the crispy batter and golden chips and gives you a nice bit of contrast.
For me, it’s part of what makes a proper fish & chip shop.
We’ve been here at 38 Poland Street since 2008, and although things have changed a lot over the years, I still love the simple things that make fish & chips what it is.
