8 years of Cakilicious by Hina Shah

What a journey it has been!

From the day I started to where I am today,
I seen so much growth — not just in my cakes and skillsets, but also in my clientele, my confidence, and the amazing people I have met along the way. Through Cakilicious, I have built wonderful connections, friendships, and a support system I will always be grateful for.

My social media following may have grown at a snail’s pace 😅… but my loyal clients have always kept me busy, motivated, and going strong.

These 8 years have had their highs & lows. Some years were incredibly busy and rewarding, while lately things have been much slower — with the economy affecting everyone and everything becoming more expensive: ingredients, gas, electricity… while customers naturally look for cheaper options.

There were moments when I genuinely questioned everything. I even thought about going back to work part-time, and at one point, I considered closing down completely.

But something inside me simply wouldn’t let me give up.

I am my daddy’s daughter — the daughter of a man who believed in perseverance till the very end. And that strength keeps reminding me to keep going, keep trying, and keep believing.

Because every business — whether small or big — goes through difficult seasons. What matters is finding the strength to rise again and carry on.

And I m so glad I listened to my heart. Yes, times are still challenging, but i am continuing to work hard, learn more, push myself, and create with love.

I am excited to share that I will be exhibiting for the very first time at the Hillingdon Chambers of Commerce Expo on Friday, 5 June 2026 at The ARC, Uxbridge.

It’s a fantastic event bringing together over 100 exhibitors, as well as businesses, investors, entrepreneurs, students and industry leaders from across Hillingdon and surrounding areas.

I will be there at Stand 20 showcasing some of my bespoke cakes, chatting all things celebrations, weddings and special events.

LIFE OF A BAKER: The oven turns off, but the mind never does

A baker’s work is more than what comes out of the oven. It's the ideas that arrive late at night, the designs saved for later, the flavour combinations constantly being tested in your head, and the quiet pressure of always wanting the next one to be even better.

To you it may look just a cake - but behind every one is time, creativity, practice, and a mind that rarely switches off.

This is the part people don’t often talk about — how much of baking happens long before the mixer starts. The thinking, the planning, the wondering if a design could look better, if a sponge could be softer, if a flavour could work differently.

Being a baker means creating with your hands, but also carrying hundreds of ideas in your head all the time.

It is tiring no doubt, but beautiful, and somehow always worth it.

Blooming at 70 🎉

A beautiful floral creation designed to celebrate a very special 70th birthday in the most elegant way possible 🌸

I absolutely loved how this bespoke cake turned out for my client's Mum's 70th birthday celebration.

She gave me the colour scheme and hinted what sort of style she was thinking of and left everything else to me. And voila.....isn't this gorgeous 😍 ❤️

Can easily be suitable for an engagement /Civil or intimate wedding celebration too.

I have so much joy and pleasure in finally revealing this stunner!

This cake was created for someone whose journey goes far beyond what we see on the surface.

10 years ago, she built something beautiful from love and loss — honouring her sister, and creating a business that continues to give back and touch so many lives.
And through the years, life hasn’t been easy…
Yet through it all, she’s continued to show up with strength, grace, and heart — for her business, her family, and everyone around her.

We all know this special person by the name, Rubina Hussain and her amazing business which celebrated it's 10th anniversary last weekend!

This wasn’t just about celebrating a milestone…..but everything it took to get here.

It was a complete pleasure to create this cake and to give back to Rubina (who all gives)...and to be a small part of such a special milestone.

Oooh its a party with Peppa 😃

You know when your lil niece says - "Bhabhu (aunty) please can you make me a purple Peppa Pig cake?" - you gotta make it ...especially for that million dollar smile😁

It was such a joy to see those innocent eyes lit up and a lil shyness come when my adorable niece, Saesha, saw her bday cake. She was super happy and couldn't keep her eyes away from the cake.

Now thats exactly what I wanted. And of course, the flavour had to be her fav - Chocolate cake.

50 & FABULOUS!

I have been waiting to share this beauty with you all!

You know best friends are so special (...and especially if they are the very first ones...from your primary days) - so there obviously has to be a special cake for their 50th!

I created this stunning cake for my first ever bestie, Priya Mehta for her special milestone bday celebration.

She has always been effortlessly stylish, loves dressing up, hair always on point and truly has that doll-like look & elegance… so I wanted the cake to reflect her. And this cake just does that - soft waves, flowing dress, a touch of glam… and of course, a little sparkle - just like her.

Every detail was designed with love to celebrate not just a milestone, but who she is ❤️

And the bday gal totally loved it 🤗

A note to myself 🤍

It’s so easy to feel like you always have to be doing more, taking on more, creating more…..but sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself and your creativity — is pause.

Because stepping away doesn’t mean you are falling behind…..it just means you are giving yourself space to come back better.

And that’s where the real magic happens!

A little reminder for every baker who’s always on the go -
Not every cake turns out perfect.
Not every design goes as planned.
Not every late night feels worth it.

And that’s okay.

The long hours, the tired hands, the constant trying… it all counts. Even when you feel behind, you are still growing.

THROWBACK THURSDAY

One of all-time favourite creations - THE WONDER WOMAN 💜

This cake will always hold a special place in my heart. Not just because of how it turned out—but because of what it represents.

When Sejal reached out for her 40th birthday cake, she shared something deeply personal—her journey through cancer and her strength in coming out of remission. This wasn’t just a celebration… it was a victory. A moment that deserved to be honoured in the most meaningful way. She gave me a few ideas—purple, Wonder Woman, and butterflies—and then said the words every cake artist dreams of: “Surprise me.”

And that’s when the magic began ✨
This design became an artistic expression of strength, resilience, femininity, & transformation.

Every detail on this cake was completely edible and handmade—from the delicate textures, the flowing fabric effect, to the intricate elements I had newly learnt and was so excited to bring to life. This was also a moment where I pushed my creativity further—drawing inspiration from techniques I had learnt, and trusting my instincts to create something truly unique and personal.

For me, this cake represents what I love most about what I do—
- Creating art, not just cakes
- Telling stories through design
- And celebrating life’s most powerful moments
