As the lingering warmth of summer gently gives way to the crispness of early autumn, September ushers in a season of rich harvests and changing hues.

September marks the beginning of meteorological autumn, bringing with it cooler temperatures and shorter days. This month is a time of transition, where summer’s produce overlaps with autumn’s heartier offerings.

Peak native lobster season is coming to a close in the next few weeks.

Catch becomes harder and more perilous as the weather shifts for our small boats of lobster boys and girls. Whilst it will still be available on our landings board prices will start to increase for the winter season, peaking around December and then start to drop in the spring.

So now’s your chance! Come get your fill, half lobster 🦞whole lobster 🦞 lobster sub. All on the menu!

On our road trips last year we happened upon a rather impressive castle. This thing was massive compared to the village it sat in! Apparently built by the Normans to keep the naughty Welsh in line! Rebellious lot apparently!

So we thought we'd write up a little piece about our favourite castles (geeky I know) but travelling the UK coast we've seen some fine specimens and when we aren't shucking oysters or learning new culinary delights we do pay a visit every now and then.

Here's a few day trip ideas for the remainder of this summer!!!!

🏰 Tintagel Castle — cliffs, legend, and the story of King Arthur woven into the coastline
🏰 Bamburgh Castle — standing proudly above vast stretches of untouched beach
🏰 Dunnottar Castle — dramatic, isolated, and surrounded by crashing waves
🏰 St Michael’s Mount — a tidal island steeped in myth and history
🏰 Caernarfon Castle — imposing walls and a powerful sense of Welsh heritage
🏰 Carrickfergus Castle — one of the best-preserved Norman castles in Ireland

Each one tells its own story — shaped as much by the sea as by the people who built them.
We’ve shared the routes, the history, and why they’re worth the journey in the full journal.

As we step into August, we find ourselves in the final stretch of summer, a month brimming with warmth, vibrant life, and abundant harvests. Beaches are overflowing with holidaymakers and locals eager to embrace the last rays of the summer sun.

August is a time of transition. The heat of summer is still lingering, but hints of the upcoming autumn season are starting to appear. With its hot, sunny days and warm, mild evenings, the final ‘dog days of summer’ peter out to make way for cooler temperatures.

Off on your summer holidays? We'll miss you here in Hammersmith... And we are open all summer. But have also promised ourselves a few road trips to find new goodies!

But here are five epic walks we think you will love if you are staycationing!!!

1. SOUTH WEST COAST PATH: LIZARD PENINSULA, CORNWALL
The South West Coast Path is the UK’s longest national trail, stretching 630 miles along the coastline of Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, and Dorset.

2. PEMBROKESHIRE COAST PATH: ST DAVIDS HEAD, WALES
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is one of the UK’s most beautiful long-distance trails, but the walk around St Davids Head offers a stunning shorter option. It combines dramatic cliffs, wildflower-covered headlands, and views across the Atlantic.

3. CAUSEWAY COAST WAY, NORTHERN IRELAND
A spectacular clifftop walk between Dunseverick Castle and the Giant’s Causeway, this trail showcases Northern Ireland’s rugged beauty with dramatic cliffs, sea caves, and the famous hexagonal rock formations.

4. FIFE COASTAL PATH: ELIE TO ANSTRUTHER, SCOTLAND
This section of the Fife Coastal Path takes walkers past charming fishing villages, sandy beaches, and the Elie Ness Lighthouse. The trail is relatively easy and offers a mix of history, wildlife, and stunning sea views.

5. ROBIN HOOD’S BAY TO WHITBY, NORTH YORKSHIRE
A classic coastal walk along the Cleveland Way, offering stunning clifftop views, historic fishing villages, and the Gothic charm of Whitby Abbey.
