Last night we officially launched the Hoop and Grapes in true historic style. In a quirky ceremony dating back to the 13th century, Ale Conners Jon Averns and Lucy Beacon, representing the City of London Corporation, put our beer to the ultimate test.
Their task? Sit on a wooden stool sprinkled with ale, wearing leather breeches. If after three minutes the trousers stick – the ale fails. If they rise freely – it passes! All under the watchful eye of Shepherd Neame Chief Executive Jonathan Neame and Alderman Vincent Keaveny CBE.
We’re pleased to confirm our brew passed the test - so why not stop by and taste a little history for yourself?

Good news, we’ll be open before and after those hours for our usual service. Stop by early or swing in later
We’d love to see you!
