Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and, while I don’t always agree with that, I do when it comes to people recreating their favourite artists on our ceramics. For example take a look at these excellent Jean-Michel Basquiat inspired mugs painted in the cafe. They are so good and I’m sure the artist would approve. We get a lot of Van Gogh in the cafe, the occasional Mondrian and a few Clarice Cliff (for all you true ceramics fans or people who watch Bargain Hunt) and they are all marvellous and deserve their own gallery space.
Don’t forget it doesn’t matter if you don’t feel like you can recreate a masterpiece, there are lots of artists that didn’t go for detail. My personal favourite is making a good old mess like Jackson Po***ck with underglaze and a toothbrush, I’ve seen a few toddlers have a good go at doing a Rothko and I do have a Keith Harring mug on my endless list of ceramics I want to paint. So come to the cafe, unleash the inner artist (no matter how hard they are hiding) and create a ceramic you could hang on your wall (or eat your dinner off!)

Hey there hot stuff! Not sure if that is how I should be greeting you, our lovely followers, but this plate definitely deserves a slightly spicy round of applause. These rectangular plates have proved super popular since they arrived on our shelves and I think they are a great example of how one item can be painted in lots of different ways. We’ve got fancy tomatoes that feel like a plate you could definitely buy from a fancy shop and baby footprints walking up the plates looking super cute. We’ve also got a cheeky little crab and a whole host of other designs that will all look lovely in their new homes. I’ve even gone on Canva to make this post prettier (and also because they may be lovely but rectangular plates and Instagram squares are not friends!) to offer a little inspiration for your next visit to the cafe!

They say never meet your heroes, but I was not disappointed to have come across this excellent Lisa Simpson mug painted by a clever customer in the cafe. It is SO good and I definitely want to keep it (but obviously will not as that would be terrible for business). We get lots of cartoon / anime characters painted in the cafe and they are always good - nothing beats making your own merch. It also means if a friend has a niche interest you can create a perfectly personalised present for them that they will treasure forever. Or paint your own favourite niche interest - you deserve it! It’s lovely and calm during the week in the cafe at the moment, so an ideal time to come in and treat yourself to a spot of pottery painting. And cake. You definitely deserve cake. Lisa would approve.

It’s Monday so, depending on your start of the week / post Easter holiday mood, here we have a lovely little Moomin mug that’s all sweetness and light and then a Batman Mug, which is dark and brooding. I like the idea of painting mugs to match your mood so people can tell, when you are sipping your Monday morning caffeine, whether they should approach for a chat or stay as far away as possible. So, if you would like to paint something twee and full of whimsy, or if you want to go gothic or moody then we have the blank ceramics and whole spectrum of paints so you can create the pottery your heart desires.
Side note: While writing this caption I have just realised that Moomins and Batman are two of our eldest’s favourite things. She didn’t paint either of these, they were done by clever customers, but I have a feeling she was the one who took the pictures and, frankly, I’m surprised she didn’t steal them.

If you’ve got a passion for fruit (see what I did there) then take a look at this gorgeous pomegranate inspired plate painted in the cafe. It’s so bold and beautiful and looks like something you could buy in a shop for a very high price tag. As it now seems to be the done thing that you can’t just post one lovely picture at a time, I had a quick scan through the archives (that’s the 31,164 pictures on my phone - I wish I was exaggerating) and found these other beautiful fruit themed plates which have been painted in the cafe and are definitely worth taking another look at. I know for a fact we’ve had some excellent blueberry mugs, peach plates and more watermelon bowls than you can shake a gooseberry at painted in the cafe recently and I highly recommend you do the same! Half term is on the horizon so if you want to come to the cafe and paint some ceramics over Easter do give us a call and book a spot. I’ll get Tim to do some Easter themed baking too!

Just like the Vengaboys, we like to party. At the cafe we offer celebrations for all occasions. It’s not just children’s parties - although they are always very good fun - but hen parties, baby showers, adult birthday parties, retirements and all sorts of work dos too. We had a lovely baby shower in recently who said we could share their photos so here they are! They painted some fantastic ceramics and Tim served up one of our afternoon teas that come with sandwiches, all shapes and sizes of cakes (the ones seen here are particularly MASSIVE) not to mention homemade scones with lashings of cream and jam. We do put on a good spread, even if I do say so myself, Tim even bakes the bread rolls and it is all served on pretty vintage china. If you’re a group we have a few catering options to choose from and we have lots of packages for painting. But what if there are too many of you to fit in the cafe, I hear you say. Well, we can come to your venue (minus the catering) and host a session for you. Want to do it in the comfort of your own home? We can create a bespoke Takeaway Kit and you can grab a cake to take with you if you fancy! Basically pottery painting and cake make a great party so give us a shout and we can make it happen!

We get all sorts of ceramics painted in the cafe, wild splats, simple patterns, floral designs - you name it people paint it and they all look fabulous. However, every so often we get a ceramic painted that shows a real artistic flair. How amazing is this portrait tile painted in the cafe by a very talented customer. There is layering of colours (tricky to do with ceramic paints which change colour in the kiln) and you can tell it’s good as almost every member of staff sent me picture of it - high praise indeed. There’s also pic of it pre and post fired so you can see how the colour changes in the kiln. So whether you are a novice painter or a bit of a pro, come to the cafe and get painting and make your own piece of art!

Pull up a chair, we have news! Take a look at the lovely new tables and chairs we have made for the cafe! Ok, we didn’t make the chairs but we did get the excellent Jacks DIY Store to make the table tops for us, Tim screwed all the legs on and we measured at least 5,235 times to make sure everything would fit, but it means we have more space for painters - hooray! We now have nice tables for two and everything can be moved around and fitted together for groups of all sizes. Vibe is obviously of upmost importance 😉 and we had a fully booked weekend last weekend and despite being able to fit more people in, it didn’t feel crowded and more people got to have fun. That’s a win in anyone’s book. I am currently in the midst of macrame making the new window decorations and plans are afoot for new stock and card shelves - it is going to look splendid even if I do say so myself. So come visit, marvel at our handiwork, paint and eat some cake and look forward to a creative year ahead - it’s already February and the days are getting longer!

Paint the whole world with a rainbow! With a storm coming in and snow on the horizon warm your cockles with these lovely colours painted by a customer in the cafe on one of our storage jars complete with bamboo lid. I love our storage jars as I use so many of them, they work for tea, coffee, sugar, rice, hopes and dreams, existential dread, Jaffa cakes, anything really. Btw I know this picture won’t be seen by many as it’s not a reel or a carousel (and I am going to try and do more of those, honest) or some trending music or content idea, but I’m starting to miss the old Instagram which was just lots of nice pictures that didn’t take hours to put together. Not that I don’t like all of that, but I would hope there was space for it all.

It’s Blue Monday apparently, no not the New Order track, but the most depressing day of the year - which was made up to sell holidays. I am using it instead to share this beautiful blue peacock plate painted by a very clever customer in the cafe. Isn’t it elegant! If not being hung on the wall I would advise serving a particularly decadent cake on it. Be like a peacock and strut into 2026, shaking your tail feathers and making a god awful screech if anyone gets in your way. Come to the cafe a paint a plate celebrating your spirit animal, so if you do feel a bit blue you can look at them and take on their best characteristics as your own. David Attenborough would approve.

Well hello there, it’s been a while! After a rather hectic start to the year (my birthday, yay! Car just died, boo!) I am finally returning to the warm arms of social media to tell you why you should all definitely come to Creative Biscuit this year (Spoiler - it’s a lovely thing to do) as well as to reintroduce us, the cafe and what we offer. So swipe away to find out more! We’ve got lots planned for 2026, and we are already working on refreshing the cafe a little with new furniture and displays (bear with us on this, when you’re open 7 days a week it’s tricky to find the time). Tim has gone a little mad and we now have more ceramics than you can shake a paintbrush at, not to mention lots of new ones to pick from - I promise to try and remember to put them on stories soon. So come to the cafe, grab a slice of cake and do some painting. There’s nothing a little whimsy can’t solve.

Happy Christmas everyone! May your turkey be plump and your sprouts plentiful. Thank you all for making the festive season so lovely for us, we hope all ceramic gifts you give are received with joy and, even if you don’t get what you want under the tree, you get to spend time with those you love. We are now closed until the 27th (two whole days!) and we plan on doing not very much of anything. We will answer all queries on our return! We are open 27th - 31st December, and we do still have space so call us when we reopen or drop us a message and once we’ve run out of chocolates we’ll get back to work.

It’s nearly Christmas! You may not feel prepared (I know I don’t!) but amongst the endless lists, wrapping, last minute dashes to the shop etc. don’t forget to take some time out to enjoy it too. Whether that’s watching Home Alone for the hundredth time, doing something creative (hello!), or locking yourself in the bathroom for half an hour and singing Christmas carols in the shower, do it! If you need a last minute gift we have Takeaway Painting Kits and gift vouchers that can be picked up from the cafe. Also once the big day is done, we are open 27th - 31st for painting, so book a spot and make sure you enjoy the break (if you get one!) You can paint festive ceramics like the nutcrackers and train pictured here ready for next year. See you are more prepared than you thought!

No need to turn into the Grinch just yet as there is still time to paint for Christmas! Our last guaranteed firing for pick up on Christmas Eve (yes, we are open Christmas Eve!) is 20 December and we may be able to get a few things through the kiln after that too. Also, we are open between Christmas and New Year for all your painting / escaping the house needs. When the cheese is starting to run out, the kids are killing each other, or you just want to see some friends (or escape on your own) come to the cafe for a painting session and make some decorations for next year or make something that has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas whatsoever and look forward to the year ahead instead. We also have Takeaway Painting Kits so you can take the cafe home with you and occupy yourselves while nibbling on Quality Street - a good activity if you have different generations to occupy and you need to avoid Risk or Monopoly and keep a harmonious household!

It’s bauble season! We do love a bauble in the cafe and we have them in all shapes and sizes - big ones, small ones, star ones, teardrops ones, vintage style ones and great big ones to get baby prints on - you want a bauble to hang on your tree, we’ve probably got it! We got our Christmas tree for home today and my favourite part of it (apart from carrying it home pretending to be Godzilla marauding with massive pine tree) is getting all the decorations out that we have collected over the years and remembering all the memories related to them. Alongside the ones the kids made when they were little -such as pinecones with far too much glitter - it’s the ones they’ve painted over the years, no matter how badly, that are the loveliest. Create an heirloom bauble that will bring a tear to your eye each year when you remove it from the box - whether it’s your baby’s first prints or a unique one for you that you could never buy in the shops. We also have Takeaway Painting Kits so you can paint baubles at home too!
