Creative Biscuit Ceramics Cafe is a coffee shop located in east London, where customers can customise their own pottery with painting and glazing. Tim and Karen have been bringing creativity to life since 2010 with newborn babies’ hand and footprints, toddler activities, hen parties, baby showers, adult craft nights and much more. Creative Biscuit also offers late night painting twice a month just for adults, as well as hosting tea parties for adults. Corporate events, schools, charities festivals and pop ups are welcomed too! 🎶Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday Creative Biscuit Ceramics Cafe, Happy Birthday to us! 🎶 We are now 16 years old. That’s 16 years of painting, glazing, firing, baby hand and footprints, pop-ups, parties, making coffees, baking cakes, afternoon teas, corporate bookings, pub events, mopping the floors, cleaning paint trays - you get the idea - and we wouldn’t change a thing (OK that’s probably not true, but you get the sentiment). This year has been possibly the hardest (lockdowns aside) yet and this summer has felt a bit like an uphill struggle with very few hours off, but this is what we signed up for! I always tell the tale of when we got the keys 16 years ago, I painted the worst mug ever, thought we had made a horrible mistake, had a little cry, then got on with getting on with it and we intend to keep doing so for as long as you want us. We are a family business, it’s just me and Tim, plus our lovely shop staff and we really do the best we can. We (possibly foolishly) keep our prices as low as we can as we want everyone to be able to come and be creative and we open seven days a week so you can always come in. So here we are looking older, fatter (me) and rather more tired, but still loving having you all visit the cafe to paint excellent ceramics. We’ve even finally - after months of waiting - got the awning fixed and here it is looking lovely! So there’s a picture of the cafe now and one when we first started plus Tim with our eldest not long after we began who is now a fully fledged adult. Time goes fast, so get those baby hand and footprints while you can! Thank you all for being with us on this journey and here’s to our 17th birthday!

* Number 5 probably won’t shock you it’s just a nice friendly chicken, but I believe this kind of click bait is what we’re supposed to do on here now so people see our lovely ceramics. Damn you algorithm. But who cares, these ceramics are awesome and were painted by very clever and creative customers in the cafe so if they’re only seen by you, that’s enough for me. We have Studio Ghibli inspired plates, a surprised cat on a mug, an amazing portrait on a tile and a Hollow Knight themed pasta bowl (if you don’t know it is a video game I will never complete) - all different styles and painters and all absolutely fabulous, just like the painters who visit us in the cafe. So if you would like to come down to paint, eat cake and drink lovely Perky Blenders coffee then drop us a message or give us a call and book your spot for a little bit of whimsy. Heaven knows we all need a bit of whimsy right now.

Some people call it Sip & Paint, we call it Late Night Painting and it is getting bigger and even better. But how? I hear you ask, well instead of being on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, it will now be the first three Thursdays of the month where you can come in from 6-10pm to paint on ceramics, play with clay and even bring your own booze so you can make an evening of it! It’s adults only so you can paint in peace and it’s a great way to meet up with friends or have a date night. To book just drop us an email or give us a call, we would love to have you.
But that’s not all, we are also going to be popping up every fourth Monday of the month starting 26 October at our neighbours Railway Bell - South Woodford in South Woodford for more evening pottery painting. We’ll bring a selection of ceramics and you can order drinks from the bar and food too if you like. No need to book for this one, you can just drop in and paint and you get the pleasure of Tim’s company as an added bonus!

Too hot, innit! It’s all in the captions but, as a small business (and personally as a human who melts when it goes above 22C), this summer has been trying to say the least, luckily for us it has mainly been filled by you lovely lot coming in, painting and being splendid. There’s still a few weeks of holidays left so do come down and treat yourself to some ceramic painting. You deserve it. And have a strawberry lemonade too!

We will be popping up at Wood Street Bakery in Walthamstow for a special session for parents and babies on Wednesday 5 August 10-12pm. Tickets cost £5, then you pay for the ceramics you choose on the day. Food and drink can be ordered separately in the cafe (and is very highly recommended). Heatwave number 2 of the summer and I can’t say I’m a big fan! There’s been a nice breeze today, but I just know the temperature is going to ramp up again, so here are some pictures of lovely water themed ceramics painted by customers in the cafe which I have been looking at while dreaming of jumping in a lido. So turn that fan on full blast, layback and imagine you can dip your toes in the clear blue waters depicted here in paint. From pretty water lillies to lake swimmers. Fish pootling around in ponds to ocean going magical whale sharks, and I’ve even got a tiger taking a dip and a duck I am deeply jealous of.
Due to the intense heat we’ve had to fire the kiln a little less often, so we are a tiny bit behind on firing but it should only be 5 days rather than 3 and considering I’ve been concerned that Tim may turn into a literal puddle I don’t think this is too bad.
So come to the cafe and paint a ceramic that reminds you of cool days and bracing swims, or paint something like a jug or a mug you can fill with your favourite beverage to cool yourself down. Now where’s me washing up bowl to dip my toes in?

Free the bees! What do you think of our tiny ceramic bees we have made and added to our decorations cafe this summer? Made by Tim’s fair hands and then hung by him in the cafe too (look, there he is!) they hang around our painted planters in the window and in the middle of the shop too. I think they are super cute and am even thinking of making Tim to make some more so I can turn them into hanging mobiles - or we could run a workshop so you could do that yourselves, what do you think?
I’ve not seen too many bees this summer yet (although to be fair I have mainly spent it inside with a fan on full speed in my face), but can highly recommend painting bee themed ceramics which always look lovely and can be super simple to do. So Bee creative and come in the cafe and get buzzy with some summer painting (sorry, not sorry) and admire the bees while you sip on a milkshake or iced coffee- and a honey flapjack is highly recommended too - or grab a Takeaway Painting Kit and paint in your garden where you can watch the bees lazily buzz around you.

You can buy ready made kits on our website and pick your paint colours or if you want to host a few people, or even have a party, we can supply our Takeaway Box Kits which have a full set of paints, brushes and pallets, plus instructions and a colour change tile on a weekly hire. Then you can pick your ceramics from our entire stock and get painting. Bring the back to us, we will glaze them and fire them and then you can use them in any way you wish.
Obviously, we love to see you in the cafe, but as it is a portable craft then why not set up a blanket in the shade and get your craft on. It means you can take as much time as you need in a location of your choosing - right now sat in front of a fan with your feet in a paddling pool feels living the dream!

The sun is out again and the flowers are blooming so here is a selection of lovely floral mugs which have been painted in the cafe recently by very clever customers. Flower ceramics always work so well because you get to use all the brightest colours and you can make them as simple or as intricate as you like. Either way they always look fabulous. We’ve also got flower shaped plates and bowls in stock too so you can paint your own petals or just use the shape as inspiration for your own unique design - these do go quickly though so grab them while you can! I’ve never been much of a gardener, but this year I am attempting to grow dahlias this year and, snails aside, they seem to be going well. My peony hasn’t produced a single stem though and the season doesn’t last long, so if anyone wants to buy me a bunch to make up for it please do feel free!

Father’s Day is fast approaching and we are knee deep in baby hand and footprints at the shop and couldn’t be happier. So many cute babies! There is still plenty of time to get your gifts made so you can come to the cafe and we will give you as much or as little help as you would like to get the perfect prints. We can even give a hand with writing - although you are more than welcome to do it yourself too. Our paints are non-toxic so kind on skin and wash out of clothes and even if they shove a paint covered hand in their mouth it will just taste a little chalky. If you are a group and would like to come in just get in touch and you can also get Takeaway Painting Kits if you would prefer to do it at your leisure at home. I also highly recommend doing some prints for yourself too as they grow so fast and their hands and feet are so sweet when they are little (it’s not as cute when they shove their stinking size 8s in your face, let me tell you), then you always have a reminder of how tiny they once were and how far you have all come.
