Last Saturday at Eid on the Square.

Lots of good conversations, plenty of food and the chance to introduce Indonesian food to people trying it for the very first time.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, had a chat and spent a little part of their day with us šŸ’š

From our kitchen in Barnet to a birthday celebration in Central London šŸŽ‰

Prepared fresh in-house, carefully packed and delivered to Central London to the celebration it was made for

From the arrangement and finishing details to making sure everything travels properly, we try to give these occasions the same level of care we’d want ourselves šŸ’š

Whether it’s for a birthday, family gathering, wedding celebration or something more personal at home, our Tumpengs are available for both dine-in occasions at Bali Satay House and deliveries across London.

Every Tumpeng is made to order, so we always recommend reaching out a little in advance.

This wasn’t just a regular Sunday lunch.

It was their annual family gathering.
One of those afternoons that means a little more because everyone is finally together šŸ’š

Around 30 guests joined us at Bali Satay House, with welcome drinks ready as they arrived and dishes chosen ahead of time so the day could feel calm from the start.

Everyone had time to talk, settle in, sit down together and share food around the table without the afternoon feeling rushed at all

That’s what makes family gatherings special.

Not just the food but the time, the conversations and the people around the table.

If you have birthdays, family lunches or more personal gatherings in mind, it’s worth getting in touch with us early so everything can be planned properly beforehand

Some evenings call for somewhere a little slower.

Just good food, a warm room and enough time to properly settle into the evening.

At Bali Satay House, everything’s cooked fresh in-house and served in a space that’s made for slowing the pace down a little

We like to think it’s the kind of place people end up staying a little longer than they mean to

If you’re planning an evening in or around North London, it’s worth reserving ahead.

This isn’t something we rush.

Each element is cooked on its own, then carefully brought together. From the sambal to the vegetables, right through to the final details around the rice tower.

It’s the kind of dish where the process matters just as much as the end result.

Tumpeng is usually ordered for birthdays, small gatherings or when people want something that feels a bit more special on the table.

Everything is prepared fresh in-house, so we do need a bit of notice.

Small (3–5 people) Ā£175
Large (7–10 people) Ā£250

If you’ve got something coming up, send us a message and we’ll guide you through it properly šŸ’š

It’s one of those dishes that looks simple at first.

Fresh king prawns, lightly fried, then coated in our house sambal. Nothing overdone, just balanced so everything comes through properly.

There’s definitely a bit of depth to it. The kind you don’t really notice straight away but it builds as you go šŸ”„

If you’ve been thinking about trying something different, this is usually a good place to start.

Midweek tends to be when it feels a little more relaxed here, so it’s worth planning ahead if you’re coming by šŸ’š

A small way we like to end the evening.

This is Dadar Gulung. A traditional Indonesian dessert. Soft pandan crepes, filled with sweet coconut 🄄

You’ll see this all over Indonesia, from small street stalls to family kitchens.
Nothing overcomplicated, just something that’s always been there šŸ‡®šŸ‡©

We like to bring it out at the end, on the house.
A light finish before you head off.

If you’re dropping by this weekend, we’ll be here.

Sambal Goreng King Prawns šŸ”„šŸ‡®šŸ‡©

A classic Indonesian way of cooking with sambal.. slow, balanced and has depth of flavour rather than just heat.

The prawns are cooked through our housemade sambal sauce so everything comes together properly. Nothing overpowering.

Simple on the surface but tastes like there’s a lot going on in it 🦐

If you’ve been meaning to try Indonesian food, this is an easy place to begin.

You can book a table whenever you’re ready.

Looking back at ā€˜Eid in the Park’ last weekend in Acton.

A great event all round, from the live music and family friendly fun fair, to the range of food stalls and handcrafted pieces from local makers. The atmosphere was amazing.

Also gave the team a rare couple of days out of the kitchen… which they didn’t complain about šŸ˜…

We’re also grateful to have been invited back again in June.

We appreciate everyone who came over to see us šŸ’š
We’ll be back again later in the year inshallah

Not something we make every day.

Tumpeng is a traditional Indonesian centrepiece, prepared for moments that matter.. birthdays, family gatherings and occasions that bring people together šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

At the centre sits turmeric rice shaped into a cone, a symbol of gratitude and celebration, surrounded by a carefully arranged selection of dishes. Each element is placed with the intention of sharing, making it less about individual plates and more about the experience at the table.

It’s not just a dish you order.. it becomes part of the occasion itself ⭐

We prepare each one fresh to order and guide you on the right size based on your group and what you’re planning.

Available in two sizes:
• Small — 3–5 people
• Large — 7–10 people

As each one is made to order, we just ask for a bit of advance notice, with a deposit to confirm your booking.

If you have something coming up, just send us a message and we’ll help you arrange it properly šŸ‡®šŸ‡©šŸ’š

Nasi Tumpeng is something usually reserved for birthdays and special occasions, designed to be shared and enjoyed together.

We’ve written a little about what makes it different.

Not every order we get looks like this.

This one was a Nasi Tumpeng prepared yesterday morning for a birthday at 12pm. Something a little more personal and always a bit of fun to put together.

It takes time to do properly but that’s part of what makes it what it is.

We do take requests like this for birthdays and other special occasions.

If you ever have something coming up, feel free to get in touch.

Tempe Bacem 🌱
It’s one of those dishes that’s simple on the surface but takes a minute to get right.

Traditionally from Central Java, it’s slowly braised in palm sugar, soy, garlic and spices until it develops that deep, slightly sweet flavour and soft texture.

It’s not the loudest dish on the table but it’s one people tend come back to.

If you’re looking to try something a little different, alongside many others, this is one we’d always recommend šŸ’š

Some dishes don’t shout for attention…
they quietly become the ones you come back for.

Our Sambal Goreng Terong is one of those.
Soft aubergine, gently fried, coated in a rich sambal that’s deep, savoury and just the right amount of heat.

Our guests say it’s simple but it hits every time.

If you’ve never tried Indonesian food before, let this be the one you start with.
If you have… you already know.

We’re here this week, cooking as always šŸ’š
Walk-ins are welcome, bookings always recommended.

We get asked this quite a lot, especially from people coming in for the first time. ā€˜What would you recommend us to order?’

Over time, you start to notice the same dishes coming back to the table. The ones people try once and then come back for again. So we thought we’d put a few of them together here.

If you’re not too sure where to start, this is usually a good place.

Also if you’ve been before, you’ll probably recognise a few of these.

Save this for your next visit
or share it with someone you’ve been meaning to come in with. We’ll be here when you’re ready.

Mothers Day is just around the corner. It’s the perfect excuse to slow down and spend some quality time with Mum and the family šŸ’š

This Sunday, we’ll be celebrating all the amazing mothers joining us at Bali Satay House with a complimentary dessert for the table and a glass of Prosecco for each mum, on us. As a small thank you for everything they do.

As a family-run Indonesian restaurant tucked away in Barnet, we always notice the energy in the room when families come together. Seeing people enjoying their dishes, having warm conversations and spending time with the people they love creates a special atmosphere for us too.

If you’re planning a meal together this weekend, we’d love to welcome you šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

You can reserve your table through the link in our bio or by giving us a call.
Mother’s Day tends to get busy, so booking ahead is recommended.

Looking forward to seeing you all šŸ’š

Our Monkfish Curry takes inspiration from Indonesia’s coastal cooking, where seafood and coconut-based curries are a staple šŸ‡®šŸ‡©

We gently simmer monkfish, after it has been fried, in a fragrant coconut curry with fresh herbs, chillies and spices, letting the flavours develop slowly while keeping the fish tender.

Served with steamed rice to soak up every bit of the sauce.

If you haven’t tried it yet, this is one of the dishes our guests keep coming back for (the ones who can take a bit of heat šŸŒ¶ļø)

Join us this weekend and give it a try šŸ’š

Monkfish but done the Indonesian way šŸ‡®šŸ‡©

We lightly fry the monkfish first to lock in texture, then simmer it in our own house-made Indonesian curry sauce. Rich, layered, built from toasted spices and coconut.

This style of curry draws from coastal Indonesian cooking, where seafood and spice go hand in hand.

Made from scratch. No shortcuts.
Served fresh to your table.

Flavour doesn’t start on the plate.

It begins with time. In the marinade.
It develops over heat.
It’s protected through attention.
And it’s completed with balance.

That’s how we approach satay.

Prepared fresh each day here in Barnet.

We write more about this, including regional differences and why satay in Indonesia isn’t all the same, on our blog that was published yesterday.

If your curious, you can read it here:

Ikan Bakar Ć  la Leslie šŸ‡®šŸ‡©šŸ”„

A traditional Indonesian grilled fish dish, commonly found across coastal regions from Bali to Java. The fish is marinated in turmeric, garlic and spices, then chargrilled and wrapped in banana leaf to lock in its natural flavour.

Served simply with rice and fresh sambal. The way it’s meant to be enjoyed.

This isn’t fast food. It’s slow fire, heritage and balance.

If you’ve never tried Indonesian grilled fish before, this is a good place to start.
