As promised Oie has done something special to celebrate Songkran, her favourite dish from the North East of Thailand, Jungle Curry. A highly flavourful dish made with a blend of fresh herbs and spices. Not usually on our menu - as the preparation time is a lot longer than our regular dishes - Oie has infused tender chunks of chicken and vegetables with a burst of exotic aromas. A great way to start celebrating the Thai new year.

Exciting times for Thais all over the world as we enter the month of April and the new year celebrations. The date of Songkran is fixed by the transition from Pisces to Aries and is officially timed as April 13th, this does not stop the whole of Thailand celebrating throughout most of April. A big part of Songkran is the use of water, spraying people with water pistols and seemingly double points for a Ferang (Tourist). Oie would like you to celebrate Songkran and we’ll have more on that later in the month. In the meantime, Thai youngsters with water pistols are best avoided.

Did you know that all Thai babies are given a nickname at birth depending on what the family think they look like. There are three Oie’s in Oie’s family and Oie is pronounced differently in all three cases! In Thai Oie means sugar cane. Obviously a family with a sweet tooth.

OIE Truly Thai is owned by Oie, whose passion for food started early when she helped in the family restaurant. Her interest in food continued at college and after moving to London in 2007, she opened her first shop in Liverpool Street. Due to the popularity of her food, she opened a new shop in Fenchurch St, which is where you now find her, and her delicious Thai food, every weekday lunchtime.
