This Down Syndrome Awareness Month, we couldn’t be prouder to share a major milestone for the Fair Shot team!
Our incredible graduate, Ellen recently took to Parliament to speak directly to MPs at the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Down Syndrome (APPGDS) AGM. 🏛️✨
Ellen spoke powerfully about:
🔹 Her journey & life after college for young adults with learning disabilities
🔹 How training at Fair Shot in Covent Garden gave her the skills & confidence for a career
🔹 Her vision for a truly inclusive workforce
She said “I want to work and earn my own money. I am a hard worker and I like meeting people. Fair Shot gave me the confidence to speak up - I learnt to ask my colleagues when I needed help, and I am able to take the initiative when working and not just follow instructions.”
Finding meaningful employment with a learning disability shouldn’t be an uphill battle. We believe in transforming lives through real employment and ongoing support - because everyone deserves a fair shot at a career. 💪🌟
Thank you to the APPG on Down Syndrome, NDSPG, and Andrew Cooper MP for hosting us, listening to our learners, and championing change. (And yes, Andrew, we saw those latte skills! ☕😉)
We also fan girled a little (a lot!) meeting Heidi Crowter and Florence, inspiring campaigners 💚

If you’ve popped into the cafe recently, you might have noticed a few new cheery faces! ☕✨
Our 2027 learners - including Harry, Danial, Kayden, and Hugo, pictured - have officially started, and they’re already off to a roaring start! (We even spotted some impressive latte art the very first time one of our other learners Liam handled the milk station 🥛🎨).
A few quick facts about this shift of our newest team members:
🍝 One is a massive bolognese fan (relatable).
☕ One started an instant team trend with caramel hot chocolates.
🌌 One is a huge Star Wars fan.

SHE DID IT! 🏃♀️🎉🎉
Huge congratulations to our amazing graduate, Roberta, who completed the Oysho Royal Parks Half Marathon yesterday! We couldn’t be prouder of her determination, effort, and inspiring spirit every step of those 13.1 miles. 🏆✨
Roberta ran her very first half marathon to raise vital funds for Fair Shot’s 5th Birthday Campaign, helping ensure more young adults with learning disabilities get access to life-changing training and employment. ☕️💼

Today it’s World Mental Health Day, and we’ve been musing how positive mental health starts with community, purpose, and a place where you truly belong. ☕️✨
According to Mencap, up to 40% of people with a learning disability experience mental health challenges, often stemming from isolation and lack of opportunities. But when a space nurtures connection and positive emotion, that story changes completely. 💚
Just this week, one of our brand-new of learners wrote a beautiful poem sharing how excited he is to be here and how much he already loves the team!
Our doors are constantly swinging open as past learners pop back in just to catch up with their former colleagues and job coaches, usually over a latte. 🥹
