Slip, Slop, Slap... and SIP! ☕
A London heatwave is officially here, and we’re updating the classic sun safety checklist for 2026. If you need to be out and about in the next few days, make sure you:
1️⃣ Slip on a loose shirt. 👕
2️⃣ Slop on the SPF 50. 🧴
3️⃣ Slap on a hat (may we recommend our brand new caps!). 🧢
4️⃣ SIP on a beautifully crafted Fair Shot iced coffee. 🧊☕
When the pavement is melting, our cafe is a cool sanctuary minutes from Covent Garden. But the best part? Every single iced latte, cold brew, or refreshing drink you enjoy helps us pour into a brighter future.
By escaping the heat with us, you’re directly supporting our mission to tackle the 95% unemployment rate faced by adults with learning disabilities. You get to cool down, and our wonderful trainees get the hands-on hospitality experience they need to kickstart their careers.
Now that is what we call a win-win summer.

✨APPLICATIONS OPEN✨
We are currently interviewing for our next cohort of Supported Internship Learners, starting in September, with our lovely partners at Mencap.
Application/expression of interest form link is in our Bio (first link - applications go via Mencap).
At Fair Shot, we believe that if somebody with a learning disability wants to work, they should be able to.
Because everyone deserves a Fair Shot at employment.
Since 2021, we have run a purpose-built cafe in Central London, hosting up to 15 learners each year, for work experience and hospitality training with our experienced and passionate team.
Fair Shot is proud to work in partnership with Mencap for the Supported Internship. They serve as our learning provider, offering skilled job coaching and immersive classroom-based instruction.
Together, we ensure that each of our learners receives the tailored support needed to thrive and succeed on their unique journey.
The Supported Internship is suited for individuals who:
- Are aged 16-24,
- Have an EHCP,
- Want to go into paid work in hospitality (cafes, restaurants, kitchens etc.),
- Are happy to travel to Covent Garden 3 times a week for work experience
- Are happy to travel to Ealing or Barnet Mencap 1 day a week for a classroom day.

This year’s Learning Disability Week theme is a powerful question, “Do you see me?” highlighting a harsh reality.
Did you know that 1-in-3 young people with a learning disability spend less than one hour outside their home on a typical Saturday (Mencap)?
Behind these statistics are real people with big ambitions, confronting challenges that too often go unnoticed. True inclusion means ensuring people with a learning disability are seen, heard, and valued.
Every single day, our learners & graduates prove what’s possible. Employment is about so much more than just a job - it delivers vital connection, builds confidence, and fosters community.
When given the right training, a supportive employment partner, and the simple respect they deserve, our learners don’t just hold down a job - they truly thrive and light up the workplace. ✨
When we create real opportunities, we change lives. Inclusion isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a community effort. We’d love for you to join us in celebrating our amazing learners and being part of the revolution to make work fair for everyone.

When Thomas joined our Supported Internship Programme, his progress was nothing short of extraordinary. He quickly became a self-coined “professor of coffee”* mastering the art of specialty brewing early on.
Today, three years into his role as a barista with one of Savore’s partner sites, Thomas is living proof that inclusive hiring works. He works as a barista with a private catering company, nestled within a prestigious office located in Central London, proving that with determination and the correct supportive environment, we all are able to flourish.
His journey is nothing short of inspiring.
The reality is simple: young people with learning disabilities possess the drive, passion, and skills to succeed - they just need the opportunity. While our programme equips learners for long-term, meaningful careers, it’s our amazing graduates and forward-thinking employer partners who help us smash that devastating 95% unemployment statistic.

Not only are we challenging misconceptions and training young adults with learning disabilities in our Covent Garden cafe, we’re also serving some serious sarnies!
The pastrami, pickle, Emmental cheese and slaw sandwich pictured here really is as good as it looks! Yum!

and if you like what you taste you can purchase our beans to take home! You can buy these online or in the cafe. Every purchase of Inclusive Coffee directly funds practical training and employment support for our Fair Shot learners and graduates.
Here’s what your purchase achieves:
☕️ 1 bag = almost three hours of hands on training
☕️ ☕️ 2 bags = over four hours of dedicated employment support
☕️ ☕️ ☕️ 1,500 bags = funds a full year long internship for one learner.
