24 Hours in Delhi 6 with Chef Sohan Bhandari.

If you ever find yourself with a day to spare in the heart of Old Delhi, here’s how we suggest you should do.
-
Start your morning where Delhi wakes up best, over plates of iconic street food. We stopped by Chaina Ram in Fatehpuri, a legendary institution serving locals since 1901. Their savoury snacks are packed with flavour, but the real star is their famous halwa, a recipe that’s stood the test of time.
-
Once you’ve fuelled up, head towards Gadodia Market, Asia’s largest spice market. Prepare yourself for a sensory overload. The aroma of spices fills every corner, and so does the occasional sneeze. From the ground floor to the top, it’s a maze of spices from across India and beyond, a paradise for any chef.
-
No visit during mango season is complete without taking home a few boxes of India’s favourite fruit. With over a thousand varieties grown across the country, every mango tells a different story through its flavour, texture and aroma.
-
As you wander through the narrow lanes, make room for something sweet. Old Delhi’s sweet shops are woven into the city’s culture, and a hot jalebi is practically a rite of passage.
-
You’ll also come across countless dry fruit merchants along the way. These historic trading lanes have supplied homes and businesses for generations, making them the perfect place to stock up on premium nuts and dried fruits.
-
The streets themselves are a feast. Chole kulche, chai, paan, fresh snacks and local delicacies appear around every corner. The best advice? Follow the crowds and your curiosity.
-
And after a day spent exploring, eating and walking, end it the Delhi way, with a tall glass of freshly churned lassi. Rich, creamy, topped with a generous layer of malai and flavoured syrup, it’s the perfect finish to a day in Delhi 6.
-
Delhi 6 isn’t just a destination; it’s a flavour, a feeling, and a reminder that some of the world’s best experiences are found in the busiest streets.
-
Until the next trip to India. ❣️
