Happy St George’s Day! 🇬🇧

Celebrated each year on 23rd April, St George’s Day honours England’s patron saint—but interestingly, St George himself wasn’t actually English. He is believed to have been a Roman soldier of Greek origin, born in what is now modern-day Turkey, and became known for his bravery and strong Christian faith.

He was later executed on 23rd April in the year 303 AD, and over time his story spread across Europe. The famous legend of St George slaying the dragon symbolises the triumph of good over evil, and helped cement his status as a heroic figure.

By the 14th century, St George had been adopted as England’s patron saint, and his red cross on a white background became the English flag we still recognise today.

While it’s not a public holiday in England, it remains a proud day to celebrate our history, traditions, and everything that makes England unique—from its stories and heritage to simple pleasures like great food, great tea, and good company ☕️
