A lovely evening at Colombo Kitchen with our friends at Dilmah Tea and Resplendent Ceylon, Sri Lanka. 🍃
It was a pleasure to bring three traditional, family-run Sri Lankan businesses together under one roof.
We matched the night to the occasion with Artisanal Dilmah tea and Colombo 9 Gin cocktails, a bespoke menu written for the evening, and our team in traditional dress.
The highlight, of course, was the hopper demonstration. Making them in front of guests is still one of my favourite things to do.
Thank you to everyone who joined us.

The food was amazing here. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
We tried a variety of Sri Lankan dishes including hoppers, kottu roti, aubergine moju, lamprais and a selection of delicious curries — all so yummy! 🤤 You can also customise your spice level for the curries. Pair the food with their gorgeous cocktails! 🍹
The restaurant is also beautiful and spacious. You can watch the hoppers being made fresh in front of you, which is such a lovely touch.
Their Christmas Menu will be launching on their website, with FREE private hire for events and group bookings. Perfect for your Christmas celebrations! 🎄✨

🎀 This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re reposting Chef Sylvia Perera’s story.
Behind the restaurant, behind the awards, and behind the success is a woman who faced one of the most difficult chapters of her life.
In April 2024, just as Sylvia was preparing to take the biggest step yet for Colombo Kitchen — opening her second restaurant in Putney — she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She was faced with incredibly difficult decisions. Should she put her business plans on hold? Should she delay the opening? How would she manage a new restaurant while undergoing surgery and chemotherapy?
Sylvia chose to keep moving forward.
She underwent surgery before opening Putney, and began chemotherapy shortly afterwards — all while training her team, overseeing the new restaurant and continuing to build the business she had worked so hard to create.
It was an extraordinarily difficult time, but Sylvia never stopped believing in what she had built.
Today, she is a breast cancer survivor. Her story is one of courage, resilience, determination and the strength it takes to keep going when life throws you an unexpected challenge.
This month, we share her story again not just to celebrate how far she has come, but to remind everyone of the importance of awareness, checking yourself and supporting those going through their own cancer journey. 💗
