Yesterday marked the first day of Eid, and one of the busiest and most special days of the year for all of us at Sabiib Somali Restaurant.

After a long and incredibly busy shift, our team came together for a small celebration with cake, smiles and a well deserved moment together.

Hospitality is more than service. Service is taking an order. Hospitality is how you make people feel. It is the care from the kitchen, the warmth from front of house, the teamwork behind every table, and the energy our staff give throughout the day to create an experience guests remember.

While many celebrate Eid at home with family, our team spent their Eid working hard to welcome and look after thousands of guests across both restaurants. From our chefs and kitchen porters, to our runners, hosts, waiters and managers, every person plays a part in what makes Sabiib special.

To our entire team, thank you for your hard work, patience and heart.
And to every guest who spent part of their Eid with us, thank you for your support and for celebrating with us.

Eid Mubarak from the whole Sabiib family.

Eid Mubarak from all of us at Sabiib.

We will be open across both our Acton and Haringey Green Lanes restaurants on Wednesday 27th May from 8:30am until 11pm as we celebrate Eid Al Adha together with our community, guests, friends and families.

Our limited reservations are now fully booked, however we always leave a large portion of our restaurant available for walk in guests throughout the day based on first arrivals. Once full, our waitlist system will be in place at the entrance.

For larger groups we recommend visiting our Haringey Green Lanes restaurant in North London.

Eid Al Adha is a time of togetherness, gratitude, generosity and sharing meals with those around us. Somali food has always been deeply connected to hospitality, bringing people together around the table through dishes made with care, tradition and love. We look forward to welcoming you to celebrate this special day with us over freshly prepared Somali breakfasts, platters, Shaah and the warm atmosphere that makes Eid so special.

Thank you for all the continued support and love you show Sabiib. We cannot wait to celebrate with you all.

Eid Mubarak.

There are some dishes that instantly transport Somalis back to home, family kitchens, and slow mornings around the table. Oodkac is one of them.

Oodkac is a traditional Somali style cured and seasoned meat, often compared to a beef jerky style delicacy, but with a much richer depth of flavour and texture. It is slowly prepared with spices and preserved in a way that has been part of Somali food culture for generations. Strong, comforting, deeply savoury and packed with character.

One of the most loved ways to enjoy it is with freshly made Anjeero in the morning. Soft, delicate and slightly spongy, Anjeero is a staple across Somali homes and the perfect pairing to the richness of Oodkac. Simple food, but full of heritage and tradition.

At Sabiib Somali Restaurant we also love serving Oodkac a little differently in the evening with our Hummus and Oodkac. Creamy hummus, warm bread and rich Oodkac coming together in a way that feels both modern and deeply rooted in Somali flavour.

This is the beauty of Somali cuisine. Dishes that have been enjoyed for generations, still finding their place at the table today.

Beef Suqaar is one of those dishes that sits at the heart of Somali dining, simple in appearance but full of meaning. The word “suqaar” comes from the act of cutting into small pieces, and that is exactly how this dish begins. Tender cubes of beef are sautéed with onions, peppers and a blend of warming spices that bring out a deep, comforting flavour. It is the kind of dish you will find across Somali homes, cooked daily, shared generously and always made with care.

It is a dish that moves effortlessly through the day. A hearty breakfast, a satisfying lunch, or a relaxed evening meal. There is no strict rule, only the rhythm of appetite and company. Traditionally it is served either with fragrant Somali rice or alongside our freshly made flatbreads like Sabayaad or Anjeero, giving you the choice to enjoy it in your own way.

Some will scoop it up with bread, using their hands as part of the experience, connecting directly with the food as it has been done for generations. Others will reach for a spoon, especially when paired with rice. However you choose to eat it, the essence remains the same. It is about comfort, warmth and sharing.

At Sabiib, Beef Suqaar is more than a dish on the menu. It is a reflection of everyday Somali life, where food is not just prepared but lived, bringing people together around the table with ease and familiarity.

A lot of people ask us, what is Somali breakfast? It is not just one dish, it is a table, a rhythm, a way of starting the day slowly and properly.

Fuul sits at the heart of it. Slow cooked fava beans, gently stewed until soft and rich, seasoned simply to bring out their natural depth. It is comforting, nourishing and deeply rooted in East African and Somali breakfast culture, a dish that is both humble and essential.

Alongside it, our Somali Style Eggs are softly spiced and cooked to perfection, designed to be enjoyed together with the fuul, creating a balance of warmth and flavour that feels complete.

Then there is Anjeero & Oodkac. Light, soft anjeero acts as the perfect base, layered with oodkac, our finely minced, spiced beef, similar to a beef jerky style. It melts into the bread, creating something intensely flavourful, slightly smoky and completely unique to Somali cuisine.

For those who know, kidneys are a delicacy. Cooked simply but with precision, they are tender, rich and full of depth, elevated with subtle spices that bring out their natural character without overpowering it.

And of course, everything is enjoyed with our breads, made fresh throughout the day by our team. This is Somali breakfast, not rushed, not complicated, just honest food, full of flavour and made with care.

In the heart of Mogadishu, there was a time when places like Café Nazionale defined what it meant to gather, to connect, to live.

More than just a café, it stood as a cultural landmark. A meeting point for thinkers, artists, and everyday people, where conversation flowed as easily as the coffee. This was during the golden era of Mogadishu, a city alive with energy, creativity, and confidence.

Architecturally, Café Nazionale captured that moment. Elegant arches, intricate detailing, and a fusion of influences that reflected a city open to the world yet deeply rooted in its own identity. It wasn’t just a building, it was a statement.

This was the Mogadishu of movement and culture. Streets filled with life, cafés alive with music and ideas, spaces where people came together and memories were made. Café Nazionale became one of those places, woven into the rhythm of the city.

At Sabiib, this is what inspires us. Not just the food, but the feeling. The atmosphere. The idea that a space can carry culture, history, and emotion all at once.

We look back to places like this not with nostalgia, but with purpose. To take that same spirit of Somali culture, elevate it, and bring it into today’s London.

Because Somali culture has always been rich, expressive, and timeless.

We’re just continuing the story.

Some desserts are made to impress. This one is made to stay with you.

Our Timir ‘Love’ Cake is one of those dishes our guests come back for again and again. Built around dates at its core, it’s a dessert that carries depth, warmth, and a quiet richness that doesn’t try too hard. The kind of flavour that lingers, not because it’s overly sweet, but because it’s balanced.

We bake it fresh in small batches throughout the day, so what reaches your table is always just right. Soft, delicate sponge with the natural sweetness of dates coming through in every bite. Then it’s finished with our in house caramel and butter sauce, poured warm, soaking gently into the cake, and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to bring everything together.

It’s not overpowering. It’s not heavy. Just enough sweetness to enjoy slowly, especially alongside a cup of traditional Somali Shaah.

This is how we think about dessert. Made with care, made with intention, made from the heart. That’s why we put a heart on it.

20/04/2026

Our day starts early. Long before the doors open, before the first guests arrive, our kitchen is already alive.

This is where it all begins. Chefs stepping in early, setting up every station, preparing for a full day of service. Not shortcuts. Not pre-made. Just time, care and consistency.

Everything you see on your table has been made in house. Every flatbread rolled and cooked fresh throughout the day. Every dish built from the ground up. Every dessert prepared by our team, from start to finish.

It is a process that takes hours. From slow preparation in the morning to continuous cooking right through service. It never really stops.

This is the standard we hold ourselves to. Fresh, every day. Always.

Somali food with love.

Morning at Sabiib is never rushed. It is prepared with intention.

A Somali breakfast is not just something you eat, it is something you experience. Slow, warm and deeply rooted in tradition, brought to life with the level of care we are known for.

Our fuul, made from fava beans, is simmered gently until soft and rich, building depth of flavour in every spoonful. Served with eggs, it becomes a hearty and comforting dish that sets the tone for the day.

Alongside it, our breads are made fresh in house every single day.
Malawax is soft, delicate and lightly sweet, cooked to a perfect golden finish.
Sabayaad is layered and flaky with a crisp exterior, made to be torn, dipped and shared around the table.

Everything you see is prepared from scratch, from the dough to the final plate. No shortcuts, no compromise, just the time and attention these dishes deserve.

This is breakfast, the Sabiib way.

Not all Somali meals begin with rice.
Sometimes, it begins with bread.

From top to bottom, three staples that sit at the heart of Somali dining, each with its own texture, purpose, and story.

Sabayaad
Soft, layered, and lightly crisped on the outside. Cooked on a flat pan until golden, with delicate folds that give it both structure and softness. It’s the bread of versatility, used to scoop, wrap, and carry flavour. Whether paired with Suqaar or enjoyed on its own, it delivers comfort in every bite.
At Sabiib, we’ve taken it a step further, served with clotted cream and honey. A combination we introduced, and one that’s now firmly on our menu.

Anjeero
Light, airy, and unmistakable. Recognisable by its delicate bubbles and soft texture. This is where tradition speaks loudest. It absorbs flavour beautifully, soaking up stews, oils, and spices, making every bite layered and complete.

Malawax
Richer, softer, and slightly sweet. Often enjoyed at breakfast, but never limited to it. Cooked with a smooth, almost buttery finish, it pairs effortlessly with honey, sugar, or Shaah. A gentler, more indulgent side of Somali cuisine.

While Bariis (Somali Rice) is often the centre of the table, these breads are what complete the experience.

Because Somali food isn’t just about what’s on the plate.
It’s about how it’s eaten.

This is the dish Somali cuisine is known for.

Haniid.

A lamb shank that carries more than just flavour.
It carries time, care, and a process that cannot be rushed.

It starts with the marinade.
A careful balance of spices, led by our house Xawaash blend, worked into the meat so every layer is infused with that unmistakable Somali depth.

Then comes the cooking.

Hours of it.

Slow enough for the meat to soften and fall away effortlessly,
but controlled enough so it holds its form.

Tender, but never soggy.
Rich, but never overwhelming.

That balance is everything.

It is not something you can shortcut.
It is not something you can rush.

For us, it was never a question of whether we would have Haniid available.

It was always a question of how we could perfect it.

So when people ask,
“Do you have Haniid?”

We always have.

Served on its own with warm Sabayaad,
paired with fragrant Somali Bariis,
or as part of a full table spread.

This is the dish people come back for.
The one they talk about.
The one they remember.

And it is part of the reason Sabiib has been recognised as London’s Best East African Restaurant.

Never tried Somali food before? Start here.
Start with the Sambuus. Crisp, golden, and freshly fried, with a beautifully spiced filling that’s rich, comforting, and full of character. It’s the kind of first bite that instantly tells you you’re about to experience something different. Light, flavourful, and impossible to stop at one.

Then move onto the platter. This is where Somali dining truly comes to life. Fragrant Bariis, layered with spices and aroma, served alongside our signature Haniid, a slow cooked lamb shank that’s been marinated, cooked for hours, and quite literally falls off the bone. It’s tender, deep in flavour, and made to be shared. Paired with soft Sabayaad, fresh salad, and the traditional banana that brings a subtle sweetness to every bite, it’s a combination that just works.

And just when you think you’ve experienced it all, the Timir Date Cake arrives. Soft, rich, and full of depth, finished with a warm sauce that melts into every bite. It’s comforting, indulgent, and the perfect way to end your first journey into Somali cuisine.

Alongside it all, Shaah. Our spiced Somali tea, brewed fresh with cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves. Smooth, aromatic, and grounding. It brings everything together.

If it’s your first time, this is where you begin.

Not all dishes are created equal… some are remembered.

Our Haniid is that one.

The kind of dish people come back for. The one that gets spoken about long after the table is cleared. The one that quietly carries the weight of everything we believe Somali food should be.

It starts long before it reaches your table. A careful marination with our signature Xawaash blend, layered with depth, warmth and heritage. Then time does its work. Slow cooking for hours until the lamb reaches that perfect point… where it doesn’t just cut, it falls. Tender, rich, effortless.

But Haniid is not just about softness. It’s about balance. The depth of the meat, the richness of the sauce, the way it sits over Bariis… each grain carrying flavour, colour and tradition. Finished simply, because it doesn’t need much. It speaks for itself.

Served the way we know best. With warm Sabayaad, fresh sauces, and of course, the banana… that unmistakable Somali touch that brings sweet to savoury in a way you didn’t expect, but won’t forget.

There’s a reason this is our claim to fame.

It’s not just a dish.
It’s a process.
It’s patience.
It’s culture on a plate.

If you know, you know.

They are dishes designed with intention, balance and comfort in mind.

Step inside Sabiib Acton and you’ll understand instantly that this is not just a restaurant. It is a feeling, a story, a space where Somali heritage meets a modern, refined London setting.

From the textures of the interiors to the rhythm of the kitchen, every detail has been considered. This is a place designed to be experienced, not just visited.

Each dish that leaves our kitchen is prepared fresh, vibrant, and deeply rooted in Somali flavour. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is compromised. Every plate carries intention.

At the heart of our cooking is Xawaash. A spice blend that defines Somali cuisine. Warm, aromatic, unmistakable. A carefully balanced mix of cumin, coriander, turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper. It is layered into our dishes, not to overpower, but to build depth. Once you taste it, it lingers. Subtle at first, then unforgettable. The kind of flavour that keeps calling you back.

But what truly defines Sabiib is not just the food.

It is hospitality.

Not service. Hospitality.

There is a difference. Service is what you do. Hospitality is how you make people feel.

Our team understand this deeply. Every guest is welcomed with warmth, with pride, with genuine care. Conversations are shared. Stories are told. Culture is felt. This is Somali hospitality at its most honest and most elevated.

Sabiib Acton is more than a meal. It is an experience shaped by flavour, design, and people.

“Addictive.”
“Incredible.”
“What’s the recipe?”
“Outstanding.”
“Amazing.”

Some desserts speak for themselves. Our Timir Cake is one of them.

Made from dates, an ingredient deeply rooted in Somali cuisine, this cake carries both heritage and indulgence in every bite. Dates bring a natural, rich sweetness that is softer, deeper, and more refined than sugar alone. They give the cake its signature moist texture, almost melting as you eat it, with a warmth that lingers.

Served warm, the cake rests on our house caramel and butter sauce, slowly soaking in its richness. On top, a scoop of vanilla ice cream begins to melt instantly, creating that perfect contrast between hot and cold, soft and smooth.

Each element is simple. Together, it becomes something unforgettable.

If this is your first time visiting Sabiib, this is one of the dishes we quietly insist on. The kind you order once and think about long after you leave.
