It’s fig season, and new to our autumn menu is the Fig & Ricotta.
Within the croissant shell, we have a slice of honey cake, a layer of fig jam, topped with a dollop of whipped ricotta and fresh figs.
We’ll have this pastry on the counter at both Portobello and Acton daily throughout September.

Our collaboration with The Barbary, Notting Hill takes place this week, from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th September.
You’ll find The Barbary’s Apricot Jam & Spiced Rice Pudding on Layla’s pastry counter from 9.30am and slices of Layla’s Apricot & Fig Leaf Custard Tart on The Barbary’s pudding menu throughout the long weekend.
A lovely little collaboration between two Notting Hill neighbours, and we’re very much looking forward to sharing it with you.

We’re very excited to be collaborating with our Notting Hill neighbours, The Barbary, next week.
For four days, we’ll be bringing something special to both sides of the neighbourhood. We’ve created a tart especially for The Barbary’s pudding menu, while they’ve created something for the Layla pastry counter. More on both coming soon…
The collaboration will run from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th September.
If you haven’t already, now’s the time to get your Barbary, Notting Hill booking in. This one’s not to be missed.

Ollie’s last week at Layla 😢 and one of his many final requests was for us to bring back the Whiskey Custard Tart with Soda Bread Cracker & Honeycomb.
So here it is. On the counter in Acton today, and in both Acton and Portobello on Friday and Saturday. Before we close for Carnival.

It’s that time of year again.
We will be closing over Notting Hill Carnival in both Portobello and Acton (as sadly we won’t have access to our kitchen over this period).
Saturday 29th August — open as usual in Acton and Portobello
Sunday 30th August – Wednesday 2nd September — closed at both bakeries
Thursday 3rd September — back open, with a brand-new menu.

Alongside our tarts (Custard, Burnt Honey and Lemon), you can now pre-order cake from the website.
We’ve added our Chocolate Guinness Cake to the online pre-order menu. Each 8-inch round cake is finished with a delicious cream cheese frosting and serves approximately 8–10 people.
We need just 48 hours’ notice and cakes can be collected from either Portobello or Acton. The pre-order link is in our bio 🎂

An exciting opportunity has opened up to join Layla as our Assistant Head Baker, starting mid to late September.
The successful applicant will work closely alongside our Head Baker, Sinead. You will help lead the bakery team each day, ensuring consistently high standards whilst supporting the smooth running of the production across both pastry and bread kitchens. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys baking as much as they enjoy training and helping others in the team to develop.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has strong experience in both bread and pastry production in a professional bakery.
- Is organised, reliable and works well under pressure.
- Takes pride in consistency, quality and attention to detail.
- Cares about ingredients, seasonality and creating a positive working environment.
What we offer:
- Four-day working week.
- Seven weeks’ paid holiday!!
- Starting salary £40,000 (based on experience)
- Staff meals and unlimited coffee, bi-annual staff parties & generous pastry & bread allowance.

A fixture on our menu for years, it’s remained our most popular pastry and it’s not going nowhere.

Updates from Churchfield Road.
A few new additions have arrived at the bakery this week.
On the counter, you’ll find our new sandwich - Pumpkin Seed Pesto, Tomato & Fior di Latte Mozzarella on our house baguette. We’re also now serving Cold Brew, perfect for warmer days, and have jars of new-season Blackberry Jam available on the shelves.
