TUESDAY 20TH - NEW LANDS: THE TEJ QUARTET + ARPS & BIG OIL
An entirely instrumental special edition of New Lands!
The TEJ Quartet is built around the idiosyncratic and hypnozting guitar work of Toby Evans-Jesra (Lobby, Leather.head, Piglet). He is joined by three incredible guitarists who symphonise and explore every sonic space between quiet and loud, between jarring and joy.
Also performing will be arps & Big Oil, who will be debuting a very special live collaboration, merging arps’ lush, ambient, amphibian-infused dreamscapes and Big Oil’s primitive-inspired fingerpicked guitar.

The short-lived Blitz club in London’s Covent Garden was more than somewhere to hang out or be seen: it was a catalyst for cultural explosion, a counter-culture blast against everything Thatcher’s leadership had ushered in by the dawn of the 80s. Tuesday nights boasted a ferocious, fearless cast - from Boy George and Spandau Ballet to Grayson Perry and Peter Doig, to Michele Clapton, Sade and John Galliano. This was the vanguard of a different England; socially liberal, loud, proud and diverse, fiercely individualistic and determined to succeed. Britain was black and white; the Blitz Kids switched on the colour.
In Blitz, Elms reflects on a club night founded by working-class kids, one whose impact reverberated beyond its doors, through the worlds of Art, Literature, Fashion and Music, and into the present day.

The PGs take to The Ivy House stage this coming Tuesday (22nd), alongside the wonderful Gem Stark, as we kick off our autumn series of New Lands.
I caught up with Alison and Mary from the band to chat about the gig, the band, and Alison’s first visit to The Ivy House on her last day of school back in June 1974. Head to theivyhouse.substack.com to read the whole thing, and grab a £7 ticket for the gig on gel!
is The Ivy House’s new music night, which runs every other Tuesday from September to June, providing crucial opportunities for up-and-coming artists to perform. They’re always beautiful evenings, with cheap tickets and early finishes (£7 tickets, wrapped up by 10pm, can’t say fairer than that) and great music from the most exciting new artists in the area. A great way to stumble upon your favourite new band!

Glass Eel joins us this Friday as we celebrate 13 years of community ownership!
Glass Eel is the solo project of London-based artist Alice Western, whose work weaves together the sharp edges of folk tradition with the dissolving outlines of psych, grunge and indie. Inspired by the second, translucent phase of an eel’s life cycle—where tiny creatures drift unseen through the ocean like strands of glass—the project captures a sense of dislocation, fragility, and survival in uncertain environments.

To reach Stuart Road in London, you can take public transport by getting off at the Nunhead Station, which is the closest station to this location. From there, you can walk along Nunhead Green towards Brockley Road, turn left onto Aston Street and then onto Stuart Road.
Alternatively, if you are driving, you can take either the A205 (South Circular Road) or the A2214 (Brockley Rise) and turn onto Ivydale Road. Then follow the road until it turns into Stuart Road.
When it comes to parking, there are limited free parking spots available on nearby streets such as Pendrell Road or Kender Street. However, it is best to check for any restrictions before leaving your car.
