Existing in a parallel universe, cocooned in time between a 1970’s USA & Japan, TÓU emerges as a homage to Japanese Americana.
After World War II, as American soldiers continued their presence in Japan, they brought more than just their uniforms. Fragments of American life—movies, music, and fashion—seeped into Japanese culture.
By the 1960s, publications like Take Ivy introduced Japanese men to the refined culture of American college campuses. This sparked the Ametora movement in the 1980s, where Japanese culture and quality seamlessly blended with Ivy League sophistication with elements of British style and ‘70s counterculture.
Amidst this cultural exchange, Japanese Americana was born - the cultural backbone of TÓU, an aesthetic that is both timeless and distinctly Japanese.
