Elsie Franklin sings and plays acoustic country-blues, ragtime and jazz on her trusty National resonator. She is a rising talent on the UK blues scene, playing all over the country. Learning from her father (renowned blues guitarist, Adam Franklin) and good friend Steve James, Elsie is often praised for her authentic, yet unique take on early blues and jazz, drawing influence from legendary female blues artists such as Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith. .
“Elsie Franklin is the most natural blues singer I’ve heard in years, her guitar playing is pretty damn good too, uncluttered and tasteful, she really understands the genre - she’s the whole package” - Dave Kelly.

The fantastic Mazza Blues Duo live at Retro Cafe tonight (Friday 16th October).

16/10/2026

Mazza
Blues Duo
Live at Retro Cafe
Friday 16th October 8:00 pm.
Davide Mazzantini, better known by his stage name Mazza, has released his highly anticipated debut album “Tales From The City” on 31 October, now available on all major streaming platforms as well as on CD and vinyl. A gifted guitarist and singer-songwriter, Mazza has been a defining presence in the UK blues scene since 2009. He has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Little George Sueref, Ian Siegal, and Adam Gussow, and has long been a key figure in the London blues community through his enduring association with the iconic Ain’t Nothin’ But… Blues Bar.

With his new band, Mazza masterfully blends deep Southern blues with the vibrancy of a modern four-piece rock ensemble. This distinctive fusion of classic and contemporary elements sets him apart as a dynamic and innovative force in today’s blues landscape.

Recorded in the summer of 2023 at the legendary Toe Rag Studios, “Tales From The City” features an exceptional lineup of musicians: UK harmonica virtuoso Laurence Garman, legendary drummer Brendan O’Neill, and bassist Tsukasa Takaoka, with special guest and co-producer Little George Sueref. The album was engineered and produced by the acclaimed Liam Watson, known for his work with leading artists.

Listeners can continue to enjoy Mazza’s electrifying performances across London throughout the year. Whether with his full band, in an intimate duo, or solo, his shows captivate audiences with their intensity, musicianship, and heartfelt passion.

Tonight we present:
Graham Hinton and Tom Brundage
of The Mess of Blues.
The Mess of Blues was formed by Graham Hinton and Don Bowen in 2004 and took its name not just from the Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman song, but because of the way their first few gigs went.

However the arrival of ex-Commotions drummer Stephen Irvine tightened everything up, and the musical knowledge of guitar legend Owen Houlston made them re-think the name, but by then it was too late.

By the time harp-player Tom Brundage made Mess of Blues a fivesome, no-one cared.
