Repairing the top of the drum thermometer. It’s the old coil type. 76 years old. The outer casing (brass) has been eroded by too many beans and all these years it’s finally cracked allowing lots of crap inside. I do use it and trust it more to some degree than my digital one which I’ve messed around with, encrypted like WhatsApp would be a better analogy. On that I’ve modified the trimmer to give more sensitivity and specific ranges. The actual temperature doesn’t really matter, what’s happening and how much you care does. Anyway I’m a weirdo

Squirrels are hiding flower bulbs in my roaster when I’m not around. They climb through the flue and are stuffing them in the underbelly fan chamber which is normally reserved for chaff. I was wondering what that noise was! Thankfully no roasted squirrels, I thoroughly checked all the crevices before fired up.

Coleman Coffee Roasters is now fully off grid. All of the electricity is supplied by the sun. I still need gas for the burners but it’s a step in the right direction. From growing, harvesting, shipping, roasting and transit the one process that uses the most energy in the coffee chain is turning on your kettle! The final process. Invest in some panels if you can, it’s remarkably satisfying in so many ways.
