I think they liked it! After judging, all 21 competition Paellas (that’s 210 portions or about 2100 spoonfuls!) are offered to the public for tasting. You have to be quick as they don’t last long!

The traditional ‘Paella Valenciana’ is only ever made with chicken, rabbit, local white beans (garrofó), flat green beans, a little tomato, garlic, saffron, pimentón, rosemary, snails, olive oil and fundamentally water, rather than a pre-made stock. The ‘stock’ or ‘broth’ is made by first frying the ingredients and then gently simmering them in water for 45-60 mins, before the rice is added for the final 15-20 mins of the process (depending on the rice variety), making this proudly protected method unique amongst other types of rice dishes in Spain, such as Arroz de Marisco (Seafood rice) which is made with a previously prepared stock. Authentic ‘Valencian Paella’ is never a mix of fish and meat or any other random ingredient (peas, chorizo, etc). That said, all of the above is only true for the traditional ‘Valencian Paella’ and there are hundreds, if not thousands, of wonderful rice, ‘Arroz’, dishes (some cooked in the ‘Paella’ pan, others in earthenware), produced throughout the region of Valencia and Spain, using almost every ingredient imaginable, often dictated by seasons, local produce, culture and traditions.

Today is a very special day for me. Children born before 1978 (yes I am that old, and some!), could only hold dual nationality if their father was Spanish (but not mother). Recent changes to the law have allowed me to put this right and after over half a decade, I’m delighted to finally have my heritage officially recognised!

What people say

Paella in the POD is a tapas bar and restaurant that offers an authentic Paella experience. The restaurant provides private lunch or dinner for up to 8 guests, making it perfect for intimate gatherings with friends and family. The seafood lovers' favorite dish, Arroz de marisco en Paella, is a must-try when visiting this restaurant.

The workshops held at Paella in the POD are not only informative but also provide a great opportunity to indulge in delicious food. The chefs work hard to ensure that their guests eat well and leave satisfied.

The Salt Yard Croqueta challenge held at the restaurant was a high-pressure event, but the competing chefs managed to deliver a diverse selection of this Spanish classic dish.

Paella in the POD's popularity can be seen from its sold-out bookings within minutes of opening. However, it is worth waiting for the next booking as the experience is truly worth it. Sunday lunch at Paella in the POD is an excellent way to spend time with friends and family while enjoying traditional Spanish cuisine.

Lastly, we cannot forget to mention that Paella in the POD has been nominated for the World Paella Day Cup! With over 60 countries competing, this is no small feat. We encourage everyone to show their support by voting for them before June 25th via their social media link.

Overall, if you're looking for an authentic Spanish dining experience with delicious food and excellent service, look no further than Paella in the POD!
