Momo was an iconic Moroccan, African and Mediterranean restaurant located on Heddon Street in London's West End. Founded in 1997 by Parisian-Algerian restaurateur Mazouz, Momo was originally created as a place for him to enjoy his homey couscous. The restaurant consisted of four spaces: a restaurant, café, outdoor terrace and basement bar/disco called Kwānt. Downstairs at Momo, Kwānt was a relaxed bar with subtly tropical decor paying homage to traditional British elegance with hand painted wall designs by French artist Alain Grandne and interior designer Bambi Sloan. Despite hosting London luminaries, global travellers, and those seeking sanctuary from the mundane, Momo has now permanently closed its doors.
