What an incredible day here in Swaledale!
The team at the Farmers Arms were honoured to host HRH Prince William for lunch during his visit to Swaledale. He enjoyed a hearty lunch of chicken and ham pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy, which got the royal seal of approval 👑🥧
It's certainly a day we will never forget! 🤩
Did you spot the Prince during his visit today? If so, we'd love to see your photos in the comments below 📸

Muker Show Committee have been offered an opportunity to purchase the main show field where the show has been held since 1893. This is a wonderful opportunity for the Show to own the main show field, ensuring it will continue to be the 'home' of Muker Show for many years and future generations to come.
The Show Committee have raised nearly £30,000 to date, and we are now opening up the fundraising to the public, so everyone has the opportunity to contribute towards the field purchase as we know just how special the show is to so many. This will allow people to feel they have helped secure both Muker Show and the field's future.
You can donate via our official Gofundme page: https://gofund.me/53c166430 which can be accessed via our page and www.mukershow.co.uk.
Cheques can be made out to Muker Show Ltd and posted to: Helen Guy, East View Cottage, Keld, North Yorkshire,
DL11 6LJ
All donations will be very much appreciated
Thank you in advance for your support

Anyone out there looking to run their own business in the Yorkshire Dales?
For those of you that don't know there are two fabulous businesses up for sale in Muker at the moment; the Old School Art Gallery & Craft Centre and the Swaledale Woollens Shop. Both have on site living accommodation and both are well established and lucrative businesses. The Woollen Shop celebrated it's 50th year last year.
The Old School Art Gallery featured in the Yorkshire Post last week, with our good friends Polly and Richard explaining why it's time for them to move on, please see attached article.
We've been here a while and whenever a business in the Village is on the market the usual questions we face are "What is wrong, why is it for sale, is trade down?" or something along those lines. I've never quite understood why we are all so pessimistic, but I suppose it's just human nature. The real answer has more often than not been that the people involved are retiring or looking for a new venture, which is exactly the case now. Gillian at the Wool Shop is retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren and Polly and Richard are also slowing things down, it was always their plan to run the gallery for a certain length of time.
So if you fancy being your own boss, running a successful, profitable business in one of the most beautiful places in England and joining a wonderful supportive community to boot, then look no further. Both businesses are for sale via JR Hopper.
The gallery comes with its own self-contained flat - and stunning views of the picturesque village

What can we say, another brilliant Show Day (our 20th) , the weather wasn't quite what we had wished for, but it didn't seem to dampen spirits.
I think we said it a gazillion times yesterday but wanted to say it publicly today. Thank you to everybody who helped us yesterday and also in the preparation for the show.
A special thanks as always to Anne for making sure the shop was fully stocked for the big day and to Tabby for making sure we were prepped in the Teashop xx
Many thanks to Sue for helping out in the Shop on the day xx
A huge big massive thank you to Doris & Jen, you were just brilliant and we really do appreciate everything you do. A special big thank you to our very own Cinderella Mr Dave Gathercole who very kindly stepped in to do 'a bit' of washing up. We couldn't have done it without you.
The last thank you goes to our Customers, hope we were able to make your day a special one.
Is that enough thank yous?
We really are truly blessed with great staff and friends and to live and work in such a special place.
p.s. the winner on the day was the humble scone followed very closely by Apple & Blackberry

We’re ready for Show Day tomorrow.
Which one would you choose? Rhubarb & Ginger, Apple & Blackberry, Plum & Almond or Apple & Sultana …..
Chocolate Orange or Chocolate & Banana?
There are plenty more cakes and scones to choose from along with Hot & Cold Sandwiches, Bacon, mushroom and tomato quiche, Leek, mushroom & Gruyere quiche or Butternut Squash, red pepper & Cheddar Frittata.
See you from 9.00am tomorrow

Have you been to see the Muker meadows yet?
The second best thing about living in Muker (the first being the people) is the fact that we have an internationally important and beautiful spectacle in our back yard every year, from late May through June. We are very lucky indeed.
Four of the meadows were adopted in 2013 by HRH Prince of Wales as part of his 60th birthday coronation meadows project, of course he is now the King. https://coronationmeadows.org.uk/
We are also lucky to stock a lovely range of soaps from Swaledale Soapworks, https://www.swaledalesoapworks.uk/ all handmade by Tabby who also works for us in the Teashop. All the soaps in the range are inspired by the landscape of Upper Swaledale including a Muker Meadows soap. They make the perfect thank you gift for that neighbour / friend looking after your garden whilst you’re on holiday or as a special treat for yourself.
